TITLE: LOGISTIC TECHNICIAN
EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-Exempt
SUPERVISED BY: Directly by the Operations Supervisor, Assistant Operations Supervisor
and/or Operations Manager. Supervised indirectly by Managers and/or Coordinators.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Logistic Technician personnel is to make sure that supplies (including drugs) and equipment are always
correctly stocked and replaced on each ambulance. Essential supplies geared for specific emergencies are
heat sealed in plastic and strategically placed into specific compartments inside the ambulance to avoid
spoilage and for easy accountability during checkoff. When the ambulances return to base from shift, if the
seal of supply pack is broken, the entire supply bin is immediately replaced with a complete set of new and
sterile supplies. If a supply bin seal is not broken, it quickly signals to our tech’s that the item do not need
attention.
In addition to properly restocking the ambulances, Logistic tech personnel will wash the ambulances at the
end of each shift and check to make sure that they’re in good operating condition on a daily basis. They will
also retrieve and clean capital equipment from the local hospital so they can be returned quickly to the
operation. Completion of checkoff on the ambulances, the Logistic tech personnel will do a daily check off
sheet in EMS toolkits, placing a “green ready tag” on rear view mirror showing the unit is ready at a moment’s
notice.
The Logistic Technician personnel is also expected to function competently as an emergency vehicle
operator to serve as an EMS Driver and/or EMT-B, if needed.
The EMT-B is responsible for following the standards of practice for the Emergency Medical Technician Basic in accordance with the most current US Department of Transportation “Emergency Medical Technician: National Standard Curriculum”, as modified by the South Carolina Department of Health and
Environmental Control, Div. of EMS and/or Medshore Ambulance Service.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
➢ Stocks vehicles in preparation for on-coming crews and personnel.
➢ Performs terminal cleaning and restocking of units from off-going crews (including drugs).
➢ Assists in relaying units for maintenance.
➢ Cleans and performs upkeep in the supply room at headquarters.
➢ Assists Supervisors with resupplying station supplies for outlining substations or hubs.
➢ Conducts a careful examination of the patient for signs and symptoms of illness/injury and assists other medical personnel as necessary.
➢ Provides prompt and efficient care of the patient and stabilization of his condition prior to transport.
➢ Provides careful handling of the patient in moving him/her to the ambulance vehicle.
➢ Provides safe and efficient transport of the patient while constantly monitoring the patient and providing any appropriate continuing care within the limits of licenser and certification.
➢ Provides orderly transfer of patients to appropriate destinations.

JOB DESCRIPTION
➢ Upon arrival at destination with patient, responsible for cleaning, restocking basic supplies and placing
the unit back in service as soon as possible.
➢ When necessary, in the absence of other qualified rescuers, use procedures to gain access to and
disentangle patients who require extrication.
➢ In the absence of other qualified personnel, controls the emergency scene, including parking the
vehicle in such a way as to minimize further danger in the roadway as well as controlling the actions of
bystanders.
➢ Obtains information regarding the emergency from the SSC, communicates other emergency services
as needed during the call. In the absence of or as directed by more qualified personnel,
communicates with receiving hospitals regarding patient status. He must follow FCC with regard to
communications by radio.
➢ Obtains and records information for the company as well as those required by medical, legal, and
health authorities. When assigned to an EMT-P crew member, the EMT-B is generally responsible for
accurate completion of the billing report.
➢ Responsible for the full knowledge of the vehicle’s medical (BLS) and non-medical equipment and its
proper use.
➢ Will make daily checks of the vehicle equipment and systems, and completes manifest as required.
➢ Reports and relays needed equipment and repairs to Supervisor and Maintenance Personnel.
➢ Responsible for maintaining required state, and national certifications, if certified.
➢ Does not use professional knowledge and skills in any enterprise detrimental the Company or to the
public well-being.
➢ Respects and holds in confidence all information of a confidential nature obtained in the course of
professional work unless required by law to divulge such information.
➢ Maintains professional competence and demonstrates concern for the competence of other members
of the EMS health care team.
➢ Responsible for upholding standards of practice and education.
➢ Adheres to standards of personal ethics, on and off duty, which reflect credit upon the profession.
➢ Protects the public by not delegating to persons less qualified, any service which requires the
professional competence of an EMT-B.
➢ Refuses to participate in unethical procedures, and assumes the responsibility to expose
incompetence or unethical conduct of other to the appropriate authority in a proper and professional
manner.
➢ Performs other duties as required by Supervisor and/or Managers.

PHYSICAL STRENGTH REQUIRED:
1. Must be able to lift a minimum of 220 pounds (150 lb. patient and approximately 75 lb. stretcher) with assistance from one other qualified individual.
2. Must be able to lift a minimum of 100 pounds at waist high level and carry a distance of 100 yards.
3. Must be able to lift and move a 75 lb. ambulance stretcher with the help of one qualified individual.
4. Must be able to lift a 175 lb. patient (in various positions, i.e., while lying on the floor, the bed, in an automobile, etc.) with the help of one qualified individual onto a stretcher.
5. Must be able to carry a monitor/defibrillator in one hand and an ALS trauma kit in the other for a distance of 100 yards.
6. Due to the unpredictability of this type of organization, it is not always possible to guarantee meal and/or break periods. Therefore, this position must have no physical condition which would prohibit him/her from working 12 hours without a meal or break.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
1. Must be adaptive to work in all types of weather conditions, including, but not limited to, rain, snow, heat, etc.
2. Due to the uncontrolled environment in the field of emergency medical services, he/she may be subjected to predisposing themselves to be at risk for:
A. Bodily Harm
B. Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens and other Potentially Infectious Materials(OPIM).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1. Able to drive in normal and adverse conditions.
2. Skillful in thinking and acting quickly in stressful situations.
3. Able to function around seriously ill or injured people in a responsible manner.
4. Able to maintain harmonious relationships with fellow crew members, public safety personnel, and the
general public under stressful situations.
5. Good knowledge of common physical illnesses, obvious symptoms, and appropriate medical terminology.
6. Skillful in the application of basic life support (BLS) emergency care procedures and in the use of BLS equipment maintained on ambulances.
7. Skillful in assisting with advanced life support (ALS) procedures and equipment as authorized and
directed by Medshore Ambulance Service.
8. Skilled in use of locator aids to find specific locations (maps, compasses, directories, etc.).
9. Has a full knowledge of rules of the road for emergency and non-emergency situations.
10. Able to drive in accordance with Medshore Ambulance Service standards. Passes all driver examinations, written, and road tests.
11. Avoids driving infractions, on and off duty, in accordance with Company and insurance guidelines.
12. Conducts self in a professional manner while on duty and avoids inappropriate conduct, on and off
duty, that may adversely affect the reputation of Medshore Ambulance Service.
13. Able to express self effectively to both medical and lay personnel orally and written in the English language.
14. Able to deal sympathetically with patients and others.
15. Skilled in the use of EMS radio equipment.
16. Knows and abides by FCC rules and regulations.
17. Reflects the standards of professionalism in appearance with neatness and cleanliness.
18. Has a good working knowledge of all company policies pertaining to this position.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must meet the minimum requirements of the Department of Transportation Physical
Assessment and/or General Physical/Fitness Requirements for Commercial Vehicle Operations:
  • Has no back problem, muscle problem, or other physical disability, which would not allow
the lifting and carrying of heavy weight.
  • Has no established medical history or clinical diagnosis of epilepsy, rheumatic, arthritic, or
orthopedic, muscular, neuromuscular, or vascular disease, or any other medical condition
which may interfere with his ability to control and operate a motor vehicle and/or provide
patient care.
  • Has no established medical history or clinical diagnosis of uncontrolled diabetes mellitus.
  • No emotional, mental nervous, organic, or functional disorder likely to interfere with safe
emergency driving or providing emergency care.
  • No impairment of use of foot, leg , hands, or arms or other structural defects or limitations
likely to interfere with safe emergency driving or providing emergency care.
2. Full time employees must be available for recall in times of crisis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
2. Current South Carolina and/or Appropriate State Driver’s License.
3. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification (BCLS).
4. If certified, current South Carolina State and/or National Registered Certification as EMT-Basic.
