Job description
The Logistics/Transportation Manager provides analysis and expertise in domestic and some international freight with the goal of improving transportation operations. This position requires experience in managing fleet drivers as well as dedicated, contract, and common carriers for multisite distribution and fulfillment, and will develop key strategic initiatives for transportation in support of VT’s door and countertop businesses. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Job Functions:
- Coordinate freight and logistics services in cooperation with transportation management
- Maintain organized files with data and documents supporting transportation operations, including gathering data to perform analytics, presenting results along, and recommending improvements.
- Publish and present these freight metrics to management
- Create and execute strategies to improve business process productivity and reduce freight costs while providing timely order deliveries
- Develop capacity utilization plan to improve overall asset/fleet utilization
- Ensure all DOT regulations are followed, and compliance measurements are tracked
- Engage regional leads in new opportunities and solid understanding of the network, empty mile opportunity, co-load, and define and resolve network challenges
- Partner with cross-functional teams to develop new strategic solutions to improve customer service
- Lead strategy in developing a roadmap for dedicated transportation and backhaul programs to support long-term growth
- Ensure compliance of all applicable regulations by line haul operations and third-party carriers
- Develop, track, and analyze applicable KPIs to drive continuous improvement
- Build strong relationships with carries to help achieve world-class processes
- Collaborate with key business partners, including but not limited to Accounting, IT, Human resources, Operations, and leadership to all VT facilities across the United States to streamline processes and optimize the transportation network
- Influence without formal authority; ability to integrate resources to achieve strategic objectives
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Transportation, or related field or equivalent job-related experience preferred
- 5-10 years of hands-on experience in leadership managing a transportation team of 5+
- Extensive knowledge of the Freight and Transportation Industry, dedicated fleet operations are a plus
- Management experience of multisite transportation operations
- Experience in building/managing “made to order” shipments
- Railroad and dedicated or fleet management experience preferred
- Ocean and international freight management experience preferred
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
- Strong presentation, communication, and influencing competencies
- Analytical and financial fluency
- Strong quantitative skills and competency working with large sets of data in Excel, Smartsheet, or other analytics tools as needed, certification in the use of these tools a plus
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Ability to travel at least 25% of the time
