Driving Requirement:
This position requires a Texas Class C Drivers License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
Criminal Background Check:
This position requires a pre-employment Criminal Background Investigation (CBI).
Fair Labor Standards Act ( FLSA ) Classification:
This position is classified as NON- EXEMPT.
This position may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and in excess of a 40-hour work week as dictated by business needs.
Additional Information:
This position is an essential position. This means that the Top Candidate who, by virtue of their presence, specialized function or necessary skills, are essential to meeting the business or certain operational needs and are therefore required to report to duty. The Security Guard position with the Building Services Department is considered an essential employee during the COVID-19 pandemic event and as such is required to continue to report to their normal work location and perform the essentials functions of their position during the COVID-19 pandemic event.

Pay Range
$20.00 – $22.00 per hour
Hours
Rotating shifts between the hours of 6:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.
Work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekends.
Shift may change according to departmental business needs.
Employee may be required to work additional hours outside of regular work schedule with or without notice.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
- Demonstrated experience processing mail including certified, domestic, international, and insured mail.
- Demonstrated experience charging postage and reporting data.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing and operating postal equipment.
- Intermediate experience utilizing Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Demonstrated experience sorting incoming and outgoing mail according to type and destination either by hand or by utilizing mail-sorters and scanners.
- Experience providing mail services in a multi-campus or multi-department environment.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Sorts, picks up, and distributes inter-office and U.S. mail to City of Austin departments and U.S. post office.
- Processes outgoing U.S. mail including registered, insured, express, and international mail with proper postage.
- Verifies that items are addressed correctly and are in suitable condition for processing. Uses locator services for unidentifiable mail.
- Lifts and unloads containers of mail or parcels.
- Initiates and finalizes postage meter processes, weighs packages or letters to determine postage needed.
- Operates and maintains postage equipment.
- Completes and submits journal vouchers for allocating charges.
- Maintains files and records; data/information for reports, and cost estimates on appropriate forms/logs, etc.
- Audits accounting data and postage charge reporting. Records data on appropriate logs or forms.
- Compiles and records data/information for reports and cost estimates.
