One current vacancy with the General Services Agency of Tulare County. This position is assigned to various locations throughout Tulare County. This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and future vacancies. The anticipated life of the list is six months.

Typical Duties

Plan, lay out, determine required materials and estimate cost of electrical work; install electrical panel boards, conduits, transformers, pull boxes, switchgear, and related enclosures for electrical services; install electrical raceways in all types of buildings and underground; service, repair, and fabricate pumps, motor controls, distributions systems, alarm systems, security doors, security cameras, and various types of electrical equipment; test, locate, and repair trouble in electrical circuits and equipment; repair and replace broken or defective parts in motors, switches and fixtures; service, regulate and adjust emergency generator systems; replace fuses and incandescent and fluorescent lighting systems; change transformer tap connections; analyze electrical systems using voltage and amperage readings and make recommendations for changes; read and interpret blueprints and work orders; prepare drawings, sketches and job specifications for electrical work; complete various forms, work orders, and records.

Employment Standards

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.


Experience
: Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience as an electrician, with at least one (1) year at the journey level OR completion of a recognized electrician's apprenticeship program.

Knowledge of
: National Electric Code and related codes and regulations; theory of electricity; practices, tools, equipment, and materials used in the electrical trade; installation, operation and maintenance of electrical equipment, apparatus, and instruments; State and Federal safety regulations; common safety hazards; security cameras and related systems and components; low voltage electrical installations; security door controls and related systems/components; basic math to size materials, estimate project costs, and use precision measuring devices.
Skill/Ability to : Read and understand work orders, blueprints, sketches and installation instructions; plan electrical wiring systems; prepare accurate drawings and job specifications; perform complex electrical installations; assist others in the proper installation and maintenance of electrical systems and components; repair and service circuit boards and related systems and components; safely use appropriate electrical tools, equipment and materials; estimate labor and material requirements and costs; complete work orders accurately; adjust to workload changes; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers and users.
Special Requirements : Applicants must possess a Class C Driver’s License.

Conditions of Employment
Candidates selected will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. For some classifications, a physical exam will be conducted to ensure the applicant's fitness for duty. Applicants must undergo a law enforcement background investigation and receive security clearance from Tulare County Sheriff's Department and maintain that clearance for the duration of employment .

Benefit Amount: An annual benefit amount is provided and may be applied towards health insurance premiums (medical, dental, vision and life). This benefit is pro-rated and paid on a pay period basis (24 pay periods).

Health Insurance: A choice of PPO and HMO medical plans which include PPO and HMO dental plans and include dental and vision coverage. Dependent coverage is available. Providers include Anthem Blue Cross, Kaiser Permanente, Delta Dental, and Vision Services Plan (VSP).

Retirement: The retirement plan is a defined benefit plan administered pursuant to the 1937 Act County Employees Retirement Act and integrated with Social Security. In addition to ordinary retirement benefits, the plan provides disability and death benefits. Retirement contributions are made by both the County and the employee. The County has reciprocity with the State of California, contracting PERS agencies, and all County 1937 Act Retirement Systems.

Paid Holiday Leave: 12 set days and 1 personal holiday.

Vacation Accrual:
2 weeks per year (0-3 years of service)
3 weeks per year (3-7 years of service)
4 weeks per year (7-11 years of service)
5 weeks per year (11+ years of service)
Limit of 300 hours.


Sick Leave Accrual: 12 days per year with unlimited accumulation, 50 hours of which may be used toward family sick leave.

Group Term Life Insurance and AD&D: $10,000; Provided by Standard Insurance Company.

Disability Insurance: Employees are covered by State Disability Insurance. The premium is paid by the employee.

Deferred Compensation: A voluntary deferred compensation plan is available.
