Position Summary:
The Regional Maintenance Manager will plan, organize, and direct; the maintenance of plant equipment and structures, in a safe and efficient manner, in order to produce the highest quality product at optimum cost and with minimum downtime. This position provides project management responsibility for the design, development, and management of major capital projects and leadership and direction; to plan, manage and oversee the activities and operations of the Maintenance/Facilities including planning, design, repair, and maintenance of equipment, facilities and grounds ensuring optimum operations ensuring a safe, effective, efficient and compliant process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee maintenance employee activities, including scheduling, parts procurement, equipment surveys, expenditure approvals, performance reviews, company policy enforcement, and monitoring of routine contractor service and departmental communication.
  • Carry out inspections of the facilities to identify and resolve issues
  • Negotiate contracts with outside vendors for execution of maintenance work
  • Manage relationships with contractors and service providers
  • Confer with Central Region General Manager on project planning and corrective maintenance priorities
  • Assist with Managing Capital Projects
  • Manage relationships with contractors and service providers
  • Keep maintenance logs and report on daily activities
  • Ensure health and safety policies are complied with
  • Requires interface with local or state regulatory departments such as the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  • Oversees the correction, prevention, and curing of facilities-related violations issued by regulatory or governing bodies.
  • Oversee work order and inventory systems and equipment history
  • Review monthly expenditures for correctness and opportunities for cost savings
  • Enforce and comply with all safety rules and regulations
  • Attend and/or conduct Safety meetings as required
  • Source contractors, equipment providers, and other sources as necessary to complete projects.
  • Works closely with plant and corporate management on the justification of new equipment, including vendor selection and negotiation of purchase of new equipment.
  • Establish and maintain a metric-driven management approach to equipment and process performance.
  • Prepare Capital Appropriation Request packages to obtain project approvals.
  • Track, develop, and publish project status, spending, schedule, and risk reports as required.
  • Assess projects and identify solutions to meet productivity, quality, and facility goals.
  • Recommends, plans, and implements equipment repairs, maintenance processes, and techniques that improve efficiencies and/or achieve cost reductions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Secondary Duties:
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment design, and systems engineering
  • Departmental reports such as downtime, equipment expenditures, weekly utility reports, employee productivity, etc
  • Supervision of departmental training, such as training of new employees
  • Approve, allocate, and process, hours and timesheets

Supervisory Responsibility:

Direct Reports:
Maintenance Supervisors, leads, and other hourly employees.
  • In addition to managing current direct reports; this position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management within that department as well as the utility staff.
  • Responsible for interviewing, selecting, and training direct reports
  • Is responsible for reviewing performance and administers corrective action
  • Plans the work schedules, assigns duties, tracks absenteeism and reviews work to ensure quality standards
  • Responsible for monitoring work for legal or regulatory compliance
  • Observes and practices safety and housekeeping procedures at all times

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, including management of multiple departments.
  • Strong operational background with emphasis in plant management and production project implementation.
  • Strong engineering background with emphasis on all phases of project design and management.
  • Strong maintenance background with expertise in refrigeration, mechanical, electrical, preventative maintenance, and efficiency improvements.
  • Experienced in the procurement of production, engineering, and maintenance-related items with strong knowledge of capital procurement.
  • Proficient in the use of office tools including word, excel.
  • Proficient in the use of engineering, maintenance, and business software programs, including AutoCAD, MP2 CMMS, Bigfoot CMMS, MS Office Suite, and MS Project.
  • Knowledge of MRP, MRPII, and ERP systems.
  • Extensive understanding of lean manufacturing/Six Sigma.
  • Knowledge and understanding of preventative maintenance and repairs of equipment including hydraulics, motors, pumps and gearboxes.
  • Strong knowledge in environmental, health, and safety as it applies to food processing in California (i.e. Cal OSHA, Food Safety Act, GMP’s, SQF, HACCP).

Education and Experience:

Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering or related field OR equivalent combination of training and work experience.
  • 8+ years of progressively responsible maintenance/facilities experience.
  • 5+ years in the Consumer-Packaged Goods industry

Desired:
  • 5+ years in the Agriculture industry
