Summary:
This leadership position is vital to the effective organization and execution of the maintenance function within the Litchfield facility. This role will ensure timely and effective maintenance is provided on an as needed basis to support the facility, production and goals. Supervises all members of the maintenance function across all shifts and performs maintenance responsibilities as needed.
Core Responsibilities:
- Effective organization and control of the maintenance function within the entire facility. This includes managing and delegating responsibilities to 10-15 direct reports, including: Maintenance Technicians, Tool & Die Technicians, Inventory Control Coordinator/Clerk and Janitors.
- Responsible for the supervisory management, training, and performance management of the maintenance function. Fulfilling supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. This includes but is not limited to recruiting, training, creating and updating SOPs, assigning, directing and performing work, addressing complaints, and resolving problems, rewarding employees as well as applying the progressive disciplinary process for behavior and performance issues as well as monitoring attendance, managing and approving employee hours worked within the timekeeping system and supporting positive employee relations in effort to achieve/maintain high engagement levels.
- Schedules, supervises and performs the maintenance of dies, equipment, and buildings. Maintains production equipment in a manner that meets organization standards and ensures minimum equipment downtime. Establishes and maintains preventive maintenance programs and procedures. Oversees mechanics/technicians who repair and maintain equipment. Administers training programs to ensure proper operations, preventive maintenance, and will perform maintenance duties as required.
- Monitors and performs the rebuilding and repair of machinery as needed. This will include ensuring that direct reports are pro-active in the dismantling of equipment and problem solving to determine root cause of problems, troubleshooting, repairs and general preventative maintenance procedures on all plant equipment and fixtures throughout inside and outside of building.
- Supervising and performing the maintenance and repair of rolls and dies as required. This includes providing guidance and training for making replacement parts, grinding roller wheels, sharpening punches and die sections, determining when a die should be pulled for maintenance, etc.
- Initiates purchase orders for parts and machines, repairs electrical equipment of building and machinery, ensures forklifts are kept in good working order and coordinates proper disposal of all hazardous waste from premises.
- Promotes safety at all times. Ensures that all work is performed in a safe and orderly manner following all established safety protocols.
- Leading by example on all phases of the maintenance function: Cleaning work area, tools, and equipment. Performing other routine duties. Following all lockout/tagout procedures before doing any type of maintenance to machine where hands may be inside. Wears all protective equipment required by company including but not limited to gloves, ear protection, safety glasses, respirator, etc.

Job Requirements:
- Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 5 to 8 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 or more years’ experience with manufacturing/mechanical knowledge, electrical knowledge, and PLC and VFD motor programming preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, etc. (Including creating spread sheets, preparing PowerPoints, and the ability to type at least 45 words per minute).
- 3-5 years or more of supervisory experience preferred
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and teamwork abilities. Must show ability to take and give direction in a fast-paced environment with proven ability to lead teams and mentor/develop employees.
- Strong organizational, continuous improvement, problem-solving, project management and multitasking skills.
- Demonstrated analytical, process improvement, operational planning, and safety management ability.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Possess a strong mechanical aptitude, with basic understanding of electricity and welding. Ability to use basic machine shop equipment, hand tools, forklift, and jack tow-motor. Possess previous management skills.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties and responsibilities of this position, within typical manufacturing working conditions. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally to fumes, airborne particles, climate variances and moving mechanical equipment typically found in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment may require hearing protection. Certain personal protective equipment is required when in the manufacturing areas. Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to lift up to 50 lbs., sit, stand, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, and regularly required to walk. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
