Job Title: Maintenance Technician I
Department: Acton Maintenance – Equipment
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Position Overview:
The Maintenance Technician I is a critical contributor in a mission that truly represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join a company that is making significant investments in establishing US manufacturing, expanding internationally, and delivering a consistent cadence of product innovations to the market and investing in its people. This is a 12-hour rotating night shift. We are currently offering a sign-on and retention bonus of up to $10,000.
The successful candidate will be responsible for repairs and maintenance of highly automated and advanced manufacturing equipment necessary to produce our signature product. This individual will be trained and cross-trained to repair issues across a variety of technologies including heat staking, laser welding, mechanical swaging, printed circuit board (PCB) handling and testing, robotic automation, metal stamping and bending, form/fill/seal medical packaging, and high-speed discrete component assembly. In addition to equipment repair and maintenance, this individual will be responsible for the product quality performance of the equipment and basic machine troubleshooting in the event of faults and machine stops. This position requires mechanical aptitude, technical ability, machine troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, and the willingness to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a cGMP compliant environment and operate within FDA guidelines for 21CFR820 manufacturing.
- Follow all policies and procedures including safety and quality standards.
- Perform equipment setup, operation, repair, and weekly preventative maintenance tasks to meet all standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. These tasks must be completed under minimal supervision.
- Utilize human machine interfaces (HMIs) to identify and correct shifts in process control.
- Executes equipment inspections and generates emergency, corrective, and/or preventative work orders as needed.
- Excellent attention to detail, good organization, and capable of working independently with minimal instruction.
- Perform various equipment preventive maintenance tasks (i.e., cleaning, inspection, and lubrication) as necessary.
- Thoroughly document maintenance activity using the maintenance database, adequately communicate maintenance issues to appropriate employees (e.g., other maintenance techs, operators, engineers, supervisors, etc.)
- Collaborate with manufacturing and corporate representatives to help resolve complex quality, process, or safety defects.
- Troubleshoot and identify potential solutions for mechanical errors, safety issues, or general operating inefficiencies with assembly production processes.
- Assist in day-to-day support of operators, adjustments, setups, and change over.
- This is a hands-on role, requiring the candidate to take on project work assigned as an individual contributor, or as a participant on cross functional teams, as well as be able to utilize tools to inspect, repair and maintain equipment.
Education and Experience:
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- At least 1-3 years of experience working with hand tools on manufacturing equipment, HVAC, Automotive, etc. executing repair and maintenance activities.
- Basic computer skills and use of MS Office applications.
- Written and verbal English communication skills.
Preferred Skills and Competencies:
- Experience working, debugging, and/or maintaining highly automated equipment.
- Experience working with Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
- Mechanical Aptitude – Knowledge of and experience with automated machines and tools, including design, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Familiar with specific manufacturing processes such as mechanical swaging, ultrasonic welding, heat staking, laser welding, electronic controls, and precise component assembly.
- Familiar with typical sensors on automated equipment including pressure switches, flow sensors, inductive sensors, photoelectric sensors, reed switches, LVDT, and load cells.
- Experience with high-speed filming equipment
- Technical knowledge of cam driven linkages, discrete component assembly and automation
- Working in a clean room environment
Physical Requirements (if applicable):
- Required to stand for at least 75% of working time per shift, with walking at least 50% of working time per shift.
- Required to reach above shoulder frequently and below waist occasionally.
- Required to push and pull.
- Ability to lift 35lbs occasionally, 5-20lbs frequently.
- Ability to work in tight spaces.
- Able to work night shift.
