The Department of Facilities is seeking a Maintenance Technician II with trade skills and the ability to perform skilled maintenance, repairs and/or construction tasks within the County’s parks, trails, facilities, and recreational, natural resources and open lands areas. This position is located at Springton Manor Farm County Park and is primarily responsible to perform tasks for maintaining the County’s North Region parks, trails resource areas, wood lands, historic and tenant structures and recreational facilities to ensure they are in good working condition and are clean, safe and suitable for use by the public.
Preferred skills will include, but are not limited to, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, drywall, painting, landscape management, masonry, metal work/welding, etc. The applicant must have the ability to operate tools and equipment of the trade and perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.
The employee in this position is classified as an essential employee and may be required to work when the County facilities are officially closed due to inclement weather, natural disaster, other emergency situations, etc., or beyond normal hours, and/or on weekends and/or holidays as required.
Applicant must have High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED), trade school or equivalent training, and a valid driver's license. 2+ years experience is preferred. Snow removal experience is a plus.
This position requires completing documentation granting permission for the County of Chester to obtain a 3 year Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
A criminal background check is required.
- Assist and or lead general repairs and maintenance, as needed (e.g., electrical, plumbing, waterline repairs, carpentry, construction, painting, special event set-up and removal, etc.).
- Operate heavy equipment such as loader, backhoe, tractor, vehicles, small equipment, etc. if qualified and if required.
- Maintain supplies and parts.
- Assist with maintaining, service and diagnose vehicles, small equipment (minor repairs, metal work, welding, etc.).
- Perform grounds maintenance (mowing; weeding; trash pickup; mulching; planting trees and flowers; and road, trail and culvert maintenance and repair, etc.).
- Perform maintenance and safety inspections of facilities.
- Pesticide application (under direction of a certified applicator).
- Recordkeeping.
- Assists and or lead various natural resource management activities.
- Snow removal using hand tools and equipment up to 12,000 GVW, plows and spreaders.
- Facility maintenance and repair (e.g., painting, repair or replacement of faulty equipment, etc.).
- Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required

- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Trade school or equivalent working knowledge or experience in one or more of the following: plumbing, carpentry, roofing, masonry, electrical and various other trades.
- General knowledge to operate basic tools/equipment (e.g., hand-held power tools, lawn maintenance equipment, carpentry, plumbing or electrical tools, etc.).
- Ability to work alone with minimal supervision.
- Ability to communicate in a clear and appropriate manner.
- Ability to participate effectively as a team player.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Manual dexterity.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Working knowledge and experience with equipment operation.
- Successful certification in both CPR and first aid training within one year of hire.
- Ability to work extended hours on weekends and during special events, as directed.
- Working knowledge of hand and power tools and materials.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
- Minimum of two years in a building and/or grounds maintenance and/or one or more of the following: plumbing, carpentry, roofing, masonry, electrical, or other relevant trades.
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives without supervision.
- Ability to solve problems.
- Ability to use machines and equipment related to the upkeep of county facilities.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task.
- General understanding of specific events and programs pertaining to the department.
- General knowledge of county and department policies and procedures.
- Ability to read and understand basic construction drawings.
- A valid Class A driver’s license may be required depending on job assignment
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have:
- Basic knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet search tools.
