Nevada Health Centers is looking for a compassionate and mission-driven Mammography Technologist for our Mammovan with travel throughout Las Vegas and Northern Nevada. Nevada Health Centers operates the Mammovan – a mobile mammography unit that travels to underserved areas of our state, providing mammograms to women in geographically isolated areas and those who are uninsured and may not otherwise seek mammography services.

This position is per diem (scheduled as needed) and also requires paid travel throughout Nevada.

Summary

The Mammography Technologist is responsible for detecting breast tissue abnormalities by completing mammographic imaging studies and presenting them for diagnosis. Ensure all mammography equipment meets all standard required condition; assists with on-site supervision of operations of NVHC Mammovan.

Desired Education or Certifications Criteria:

  • Associate Degree in Radiology from an accredited radiologic program
  • Hold a current/valid American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) license.
  • Current/Valid Nevada State license with a minimum of one-year experience working as a Mammography Technologist required.
  • Current/Valid BLS
  • Current/Valid Nevada Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities / Functional Job Description:

  • Ability to travel distances for multiple days; when applicable
  • Knowledge of the essential functions of a medical mammography and/or women’s health
  • Knowledge of mammography CPT and ICD-9-CM coding and MQSA testing and regulations
  • Knowledge of an basic electronic medical record system (NextGen);
  • Verifies and ensures competency when utilizing EHR and EPM system
  • Identifies and obtains information from EMR
  • Documents in patient's medical record in accordance with policy in EHR and EPM (NextGen)
  • Utilizes EHR communications template to include tasking to appropriate staff
  • Completes tasks as assigned
  • Skill in operating personal computer, utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, basic skill in operating various office equipment, such as adding machine, calculator, copy machine, facsimile machine and telephone system
  • Skill in accuracy and attention to detail
  • Utilizing AIDET when greeting patients by confirming patient identification; reviewing imaging request; checking for special instructions; confirming anticipated service with patients.
  • Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of imaging procedures; explaining equipment; answering questions.
  • Ability to understand and respond appropriately, effectively and sensitively to special population groups as defined by race, ethnicity, language, age, sex, etc.
  • Conducts mammography study by positioning breasts; adjusting compression mechanisms; instructing patient to hold breath; retreating to lead protected area; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors; activating equipment to take image; releasing compression mechanisms; preparing for next positioning and view
  • Utilizes knowledge of breast anatomy, physiology, and pathology; technical factors, and radiation protection as related to the breast
  • Follows policies, procedures, and protocols set forth by Lead Radiologist Ensures medical equipment is in good working condition performing routine maintenance
  • and cleaning as required in accordance with standard regulations; report any malfunctions immediately to supervisor and coordinates repairs as needed
  • Maintains appropriate logs and required standards for mammography in accordance with NVHC policy and procedures
  • Assumes responsibility for MQSA mandated testing
  • Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques.
  • Maintains production and quality of mammograms by following established standards and procedures; developing mammograms; observing mammogram results; determining necessary adjustments for optimum results; retaking mammograms as required; forwarding completed studies to radiologist for interpretation.
  • Ensures operation of mammography equipment by completing preventive maintenance; instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories.
  • Keeps mammography supplies and patient drapes ready by inventorying stock; placing orders
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information, most importantly patient financial and medical information
  • Ability to maintain appropriate technician licensures in X-ray and mammography
  • Ability to maintain a driver’s license, and to perform transportation or courier duties; as needed
  • Responsible for organization, cleanliness, and daily maintenance of mammography exam room and patient dressing room; works in collaboration with Mammovan Driver
  • Adheres to all OSHA and state policy and procedure requirements
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities (RELIAS); reading professional publications;
