Job description
- Designs and implements safety programs and recommends ways to improve health and safety in the facility.
- Manages the facility’s air, stormwater, wastewater, waste, and spill programs including renewals, recordkeeping and reporting.
- Interacts with federal, state and local inspectors.
- Manages the changes to environmental permits and programs as it relates to any change in operation.
- Works with management to investigate, determine root cause, and implement corrective actions.
- Stays up to date on state and federal workplace safety and environmental regulations.
- Develops and conducts training for employees regarding required OSHA and environmental topics and other environmental, health and safety procedures.
- Conducts audits, identifies environmental, health and safety hazards and develops corrective actions
- Coaches supervisors on recognition of safety hazards and drives employee engagement to eliminate safety exposures.
- Creates and presents reports detailing health and safety issues to management team.
- Fields inquiries from employee hazard reporting and proper safety procedures.
- Responds to on-site emergencies and accidents. Investigates on-the-job accidents and prepares detailed reports.
- Monitors work place on a daily basis to ensure all activity meets safety compliance.
- Continuously monitor professional publications for new and innovative approaches to safety excellence.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational or Industrial Safety, Environmental Engineering or related field is required.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA guidelines.
- 5 + years of managing safety in a heavy manufacturing or related field.
- Demonstrates strong leadership, problem-solving and analytical skills and attention to detail, proficiency in computer skills to include, MS Office and database management.
- Must have ability to confidently provide direction to management with regard to safety and environmental situations.
- Communicates details of safety procedures and environmental requirements clearly to employees.
- Ability to benchmark with top companies and identify new innovative approaches to safety.
- Exhibits ability to think practically and creatively to implement the best safety practices.
- Responds quickly and efficiently to emergency situations.
