As a Manager, Manufacturing Engineer - NPI on the Operations Engineering team, you will be responsible for planning and executing the transition of new products from design and development into volume manufacturing. In this role you will collaborate with the engineering teams to continuously improve on designs and assembly process. This role is critical to ensure Markforged devices maintain high quality standards and exceed customer expectations at and through product launch. You will report to the Senior Manager, Operations Engineering, building a strong relationship with contract manufacturers (CM) and critical sub-tier suppliers while working closely with the operations teams and manufacturing, hardware, electrical and software engineers. The ideal candidate exhibits strong leadership skills, exceptional communication, project management skills and solid engineering fundamentals. This individual must be self-motivated, able to handle multiple project assignments and be willing to learn and adapt within a fast-paced engineering organization.
In this role you will:
- Lead a team to transition products from design to manufacturing. You are responsible for ensuring you and the team owns and executes on the following tasks
- Develop timelines covering all aspects of manufacturing and operations-based tasks from development to launch to sustaining
- Drive DFX opportunities to mitigate project/products risks, and perform cost/benefit analysis
- Onboard contract manufacturer (CM) from early pre-pilot builds to sustained volume production, working closely with CM's leadership team, program manager, engineers, and production team
- Coordinate, plan, review and improve manufacturing processes to ensure production capacity, efficiency and quality standards are being met
- Oversee the development, generation, and validation of work instructions, tooling/fixtures, equipment calibration, testing, quality forms and drawings throughout the NPI process
- Participate in engineering design reviews, prototype builds and provide design/assembly feedback as early as possible within the NPI phase gate process
- Coordinate BOM structure with engineering to ensure structure is kept up to date and reflective of manufacturing processes
- Review and approve engineering component and assembly drawings and Engineering Change Orders to ensure drawing and change order standards are being held
- Work closely and cooperatively with Hardware, Electrical, Software, Operations, Product, Supply Chain, Customer Solutions, and Marketing to ensure project alignment and success throughout product launch process
- Assess capabilities and capacities of key suppliers to build a robust, predictable, and scalable supply chain
- Coordinate sub-tier supplier launch initiatives and cost down activities throughout the NPI phases
- Drive accountability with internal and external stakeholders on project deliverables
- Manage the implementation and use of virtual components and tools: software, firmware, labels, and relevant control documents.

What you have:
- Demonstrated leadership and people management skills in fast paced manufacturing environment
- 5 years of experience in electromechanical product-based manufacturing
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering preferred)
- Passion for manufacturing, automation and continuous improvement
- Ability to independently lead cross-functional projects to completion
- Extremely motivated and organized individual who can be self-directed in both team-based and individual settings
- Proficient in Solidworks, 3D modeling of complex assemblies, detailed engineering drawings, GD&T, and EPDM
- Sharp analytical and mechanical mindset with a desire to apply them toward real-world manufacturing problems
- Experience with production best practices such as LEAN, Kaizen, 5S, and Six Sigma
- Experience troubleshooting and resolving electromechanical issues on a production assembly and test line
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills - can convey complex technical topics in simple terms across internal departments and external partners
- Not afraid to challenge the status quo and regularly offers their own ideas
- Experienced with issue escalation and driving accountability across internal and external teams
- Works well in a fast-paced dynamic environment
- Willingness to travel 30-40% both domestically and internationally. Travel is often heavier during the product launch process and may entail extended periods working at CM locations
