Position Title: Manager, Plastics Production

Location: Wichita KS

Reports To: Sr. Manager, Operations


The Manager, Plastics Production is responsible for the management and coordination of activities with regards to receiving raw materials, conversion of raw materials into finished goods, and daily maintenance of the facility and equipment at the plant. Participate in developing changes to improve the operations, implementing change in accordance with corporate policies, continuous improvement principles, and inventory control techniques.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development of annual operating and capital budgets. During weekly reviews, explains variances and explains when spending forecasts need to be changed. Manages budget throughout the year to ensure effective use of all resources.
  • Staff Management – Ensure consistency of work procedures and employer relationships across all shifts while managing performance expectations.
    • Assures that all employees are adequately trained by supervisors, group leaders or other designated staff member.
    • Validate that adequate work instructions, safety practices (JSAs), work standards, and quality standards are present for all jobs in the operation.
  • Ensure supervisors regularly assess the performance of associates in regard to efficiency, teamwork, interpersonal skill, safety, attendance, and quality.
  • Recommend pay changes in accordance with company personnel policies.
    • Determine appropriate staffing levels (full-time and contingent) to meet production needs.
  • Production Planning - Plans and prioritizes production to meet production schedule.
    • Participates in production meeting and updates production planner scheduler as required.
    • Maintains shop floor controls allowing efficient updating of work orders.
    • Validates that equipment and tooling are available and in good working order to meet production requirements.
    • Manage raw materials as required.
    • Promotes efficient use of staff.
  • Monitor and maintain safe work environment practices
    • Assures appropriate emergency medical treatment is administered to employees in the case of injury or illness.
    • Assure all company policies and procedures are communicated and complied with by all plant employees.
    • Assures that all OSHA regulations are complied with and that safety is stressed and emphasized to all employees.
    • Works to reduce dependence on environmentally regulated products and processes.
    • Participates in injury prevention, promoting safety and maintaining a neat and orderly work place.
    • Coordinates layout changes, equipment conversions, or equipment installations at the facility.
    • Leads safety committee in the pursuit of a safer working environment through observation and investigation of safety related items.
    • Establish, communicate and monitor parameters for operations that require materials that are environmentally regulated.
  • Foster and coordinate initiatives to develop a continuous improvement manufacturing culture.
  • Maintains an “on the shop floor” presence and active engagement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred and/or 5 to 10 years of progressive manufacturing experience and responsibilities, 3 of which must be in a supervisory capacity.
  • Requires broad technical or administrative experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of manufacturing methods, techniques, and related equipment.
  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Must have a working knowledge of production scheduling and shop operations.
  • Must have strong leadership skills, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations.
  • Must have a proven record in continuous improvement processes and lean principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word and Outlook. SAP experience preferred
