The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing processes and methods to manufacture new or existing product lines in the most effective manner with an emphasis on efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and error proofing. Determines equipment, maintains vendors and supply base needed to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specification.

This role requires working in an office environment (not hybrid or remote) at ConMet's corporate headquarters in Vancouver, Washington. Non-local candidates must be open to relocation (relocation assistance available).

Travel requirements: 25%

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and design robust manufacturing concepts and simplify/improve manufacturing processes to ensure best-practice and lean manufacturing concepts.
  • Establish and maintain equipment specifications and performance requirements for manufacturing equipment (SOR).
  • Create and maintain process documentation including process flow charts, characteristic matrix, process illustrations, PFMEA, control plans, process sheets, visual aids, gage instructions, control charts, capacity and utilization charts and others.
  • Support all APQP phase deliverables.
  • Maintain project timelines and deliverables to support internal and external customers.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, TPM, problem solving, investigate and determine root cause for internal complaints, quality rejections and failures, formulate corrective actions, lead troubleshooting process and promote safety and cleanliness throughout the company.
  • Drive technical requirements during design phase, support sourcing decisions and manage equipment integrators and tool vendor activities for plant production equipment, gauges and tooling.
  • Support quoting and acquisition process for new business and engineering changes. This involves injection molding, secondary operations, material flow and assembly processes.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent .
  • 6 or more years (6+) experience in the manufacturing industry with knowledge of commercial vehicles or commercial vehicle components desired.
  • Manufacturing process knowledge including robotic and semi-automated assembly processes, injection molding, Plastic Welding and Assembly methods along with general understanding of Process Flow, Material handling, tooling, fixtures, gauges, in-process verification and error proofing.
  • Working Knowledge of FMEA, GD&T and quality tools
  • Knowledge of SAP or similar production systems
  • Yellow or Green Belt level Certification in 6 Sigma or Lean Manufacturing preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Metrology capabilities with basic instruments, such as micrometer, comparator, et al along with ability to understand complex cmm reports.
  • Distinctive problem solving and analysis skills.
  • Basic understanding of Allen Bradley and/or Siemens controls strongly desired.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD/and other cad viewers.
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus.
