IDEX Health & Science is looking for a talented, self-motivated Manufacturing Process Engineer to join its operations team in Bristol, Connecticut. IDEX designs, develops, and manufactures OEM fluidic systems and precision components which are used in life science and healthcare instruments to improve the quality of life. Our products control the delivery and management of critical system fluids in medical diagnostics, biotech & analytical instruments, such as blood testers, drug discovery systems, DNA sequencers, and HPLC analyzers. This role supports development of manufacturing processes for our precision machined plastic manifold products and integrated fluidic electro-mechanical assemblies and subsystems. This position supports refinement of process controls, documentation of secondary operations including critical assembly and testing of our integrated fluidic products.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Engage with customers and/or design team in reviewing initial design product requirements.
- Participate in quote and order reviews with manufacturing engineering team.
- Collaborate with design engineering through phase gate product development process to launch new products on time and on budget that meet both customers’ and business’ needs.
- Design fixtures, tooling and create drawings using 3D CAD.
- Support NPD through production launch including 3D printing process and manufacturing process development of prototype parts.
- Support CNC programming and create documentation required to manufacture products.
- Support all aspects of secondary operations including:
- Diffusion bonding, solvent bonding, heat treating and oven control/validation, ultrasonic inserting, gluing and various polishing operations, mechanical washing systems, deburring, mechanical sanding, laser marking and others.
- Support assembly, testing, and troubleshoot product issues.
- Develop test specifications, assembly and test procedures, write work instructions, analyze and present data, write reports.
- Provide production floor with support in technical matters related to interpretation of engineering documentation, ECOs, rework, manufacturing difficulties and specifications, and implementation of training on new processes.
- Support Quality on root cause analysis, corrective action, and report generation for product returns under customer complaints.
- Manage projects in accordance with project timeline needs using project management software.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field. 3-5 years relevant work experience.
- Detailed oriented, neat, and strong organizational skills. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively.
- Above average abilities to use PC based tools (such as MS Word, MS Excel, and project management tools).
- Basic design and/or 3D CAD skills required, knowledge of SOLIDWORKS is preferred.
- Knowledge of manufacturing, assembly and testing processes utilizing electro-mechanical skill.
- Knowledge of fluid control and electro-mechanical devices (solenoid/rotary valves, pumps, sensors, test equipment) is preferred.
- Knowledge of various manufacturing processes including CNC milling/turning is a plus.
- Self-starter with desire to learn, and ability to work in both team environment and autonomously.
- Strong technical background in troubleshooting and problem solving.
- Knowledge of inspection equipment – video microscope, calipers, micrometer, profilometer, comparator, gage pins, drop indicator, and indicator on surface plate.
- Capability in applying RCA, DOE, FMEA, DFM/A, SPC, PDCA, DMAIC, and CI methodologies is required.
WORK CONDITIONS
- Work environment includes office environment, testing and assembly areas, laboratory settings, clean room areas and production environment.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit at desk for long hours; repetitive hand and body dexterity for utilizing computer keyboard, operating copier, sorting documents, reaching, pulling and retrieving files.
- The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus and visual acuity for reading computer screen and handwritten/typewritten documents.
- Speaking and hearing ability for telephone and in-person communications.
- Mental ability to apply concepts of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
- Able to use a variety of hand and some power tools.
The range is $80,000 - $110,000 and will commensurate with experience. We take the compensation of our employees very seriously and consider several factors when determining the total compensation package including but not limited to location, market range, skills, knowledge, experience, and abilities. The base salary range represents the low and high end of our salary range for this role. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation packages for our employees.
