Job Description Summary

BASIC FUNCTION :
Perform research and extension of an advanced and often independent nature for Coastal Resources Center (CRC) and RI Sea Grant’s (RISG) US field office. Provide portfolio leadership and technical support to CRC/RISG’s domestic and RI aquaculture, fisheries, and offshore wind portfolios.

Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES
AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
:
Lead the team’s seafood portfolio, which includes local, regional, and national aquaculture extension research and outreach projects, as well as local fisheries and seafood projects and extension.
Provide visionary support and grant writing to maintain and expand the team’s work in aquaculture and fisheries, interacting with a wide range of stakeholders and collaborator groups in RI, the region, and the nation, including National Sea Grant colleagues in fisheries and aquaculture, aligning with National SG 10-Year vision for Aquaculture. Closely work with State agencies and others to inform coastal policymaking in aquaculture, fisheries, and/or offshore wind.
Provide technical support to the fishing community on issues related to offshore wind energy. This may include identifying and implementing co-existence coastal and ocean strategies between ocean users – these strategies could include technological (e.g., implementation of gear type technologies), management and policy (e.g., engaging in ecosystem-based management initiatives), or business (e.g., marketing).
Provide technical support to the Rhode Island aquaculture industry by communicating and engaging them in applied research opportunities; assisting in policy and planning initiatives; and bolstering leadership and capacity building within the industry.
Engage aquaculture, commercial fishing and/or offshore wind energy industries in workforce development through the creation/enhancement of trainings, workshops, study tours, and meetings on issues related to aquaculture, fisheries and/or offshore wind.
Develop work plans, budgets, proposals, technical reports, and professional articles.
Instruct and supervise graduate students and others relating to the project work.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Work evenings and weekends as necessary.
Travel in-state and out-of-state as necessary.
Perform additional duties as required.
LICENSES , TOOLS , AND EQUIPMENT :
Word processing, database, ArcGIS, MailChimp, Social media software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, inDesign.) Must provide own transportation.

1. Master’s degree in environmental science and management, marine affairs, natural resource policy or related field.
2. Minimum three years professional experience providing technical knowledge (e.g., coastal/natural resource management, gear type technology, applied science) in a government, business, environmental, and/or educational organization.
3. Demonstrated experience working directly in the fields of aquaculture, fisheries, and/or offshore wind energy.
4. Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
5. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
6. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
7. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
8. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
9. Must provide own transportation.
