Position Summary


The Director of Clinical Professional Development enhances professional practice and the provision of quality patient care by providing evidence-based, quality educational programs and activities that promote professional competency for nursing, inter-professional, and non-licensed clinical staff within the market.


Responsibilities:


  • Leads the development, coordination, managing, facilitating, conducting, and evaluating of onboarding and orientation programs for nursing and other healthcare personnel.
  • Researches and implements innovative, effective, and efficient practices for orientation/onboarding. Incorporates organizational values/culture in the orientation process and ensures alignment with organizational goals and initiatives.
  • Identifies, communicates, and implements cost effectiveness and efficient orientation/onboarding practices.
  • Seeks improvement opportunities to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of clinical education through analysis of stakeholder feedback, and adjusts programs based on evaluation results.
  • Analyzes data to evaluate effectiveness of onboarding/orientation in achievement of organizational goals, including employee retention.
  • Serves as a role model for organizational and personal commitment to new employee success.

Competency Management

  • Participates in the development, coordination, and management of facilitating, conducting, and evaluating competency.
  • Initiates gap analysis and needs assessment to define new areas for competency assessment and maintenance. Identifies cost effectiveness and safety in selection of competency assessment methods.
  • Researches best practices (EBP) in competency management and current EBP patient care guidelines based on the practice setting. Analyzes data to evaluate and refine competency management activities
  • Seeks improvement opportunities to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the competency management program. Incorporates innovative methods to measure and validate competency.
  • Solves problems independently and engages stakeholders appropriately.
  • Uses clinical problems to promote clinical inquiry/investigation and improvement
  • Demonstrates an understanding of adult educational theory and the ability to apply evaluation methodologies, (i.e., Kirkpatrick) into courses and curriculum to refine clinical programs.
  • Supports new ideas and innovation in educational design. Utilizes current best evidence, and aligns education with organizational goals.
  • Identifies resources for problem solving. Provides staff with resources and education to implement changes.
  • Scans the environment to identify and analyze practice gaps, plan effective education, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Synthesizes best available evidence, evaluation data, trends, and expectations to guide decision making about changes and improvements of all components of nursing professional development practice. Follows the HCA and division clinical education development model to make required changes.
  • Supports research activities that align with the organizational strategic plan. Disseminates research findings through educational programs, courses, and other activities.
  • Develops, measures and analyzes data to demonstrate impact on nursing care delivery, including patient outcomes, nurse competency, and practice improvements.
  • Leads quality initiatives to improve education practices.
  • Embraces meaningful change and fosters acceptance, adoption and action toward change in others.
  • Creates a supportive environment for nursing research, scientific inquiry, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice. Identifies appropriate evidence to guide practice decisions.

For this position, you will be based out of HCA Florida Bayonet Hospital and support the North Market. Hospitals include, Trinity, Oak Hill and Citrus.

HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital has been serving the community since 1981. We are a 290-bed acute care hospital and designated Level II Trauma Center located in Hudson, FL and home of the nationally acclaimed Heart Institute.

HCA Florida Trinity Hospital, a 340 bed, all private room hospital (Main Campus) serves the fast-growing communities of Pasco, Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties.

HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital is a 280-bed facility offering a range of services through its Heart Institute, Orthopaedic & Spine Institute, Maternity Suites, Cancer Institute, Women's Imaging Center, Pediatric ER and adult Emergency Rooms, and ExpressLab.

Education & Experience:

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in a healthcare related field
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Required: Master’s Degree in Nursing or Education, or current enrollment in a Master’s Degree Program
  • Required: 5+ years’ experience in an acute care setting
  • Required: 3+ years’ experience in clinical education

Licenses, Certifications, & Training:

Required: Currently licensed as a registerered nurse or healthcare professional in the state in which he or she practices, in accordance with law and regulation.

Preferred: Certification as NPD Practitioner and/or clinical certification as recognized by American Nurse Credentialing Center.

Required: BLS

This position is incentive eligible.
