POSITION DESCRIPTION

The STEAM Makerspace Program Coordinator, under the direction of the Director of STEAM Makerspace Programs and working in conjunction with the Branch Director and Youth Development Supervisor, is responsible for overseeing the delivery of a broad range of STEAM-focused makerspace programs. Programs incorporate activities to develop 21st-century learning skills including flexibility, collaboration, adaptability, oral and written communication, information literacy, technology literacy, productivity, social skills, leadership, initiative, critical thinking, problem solving and more. The STEAM Makerspace Program Coordinator plans, develops, and oversees implementation of programs and program staff as relates to specified priority outcomes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Program Development & Implementation:
  • Creates a dynamic, positive work environment for part-time staff. Maintains close daily contact with indirect reports. Provides coaching, training opportunities, redirection, and encouragement; helps develop skill set necessary for internal promotion.
  • Runs and/or monitors makerspace program delivery and works with program staff to plan and implement improvements.
  • Establishes and maintains program goals and settings that insure the health and safety of members.
  • Ensures evaluation of programs on a continual basis and ensures programs/activities respond to member needs.
  • Monitors program areas and provides constructive feedback to staff regarding program delivery and member guidance and discipline. Works with STEAM Makerspace Director to purchase supplies and materials needed for programs.
  • Recruits and develops volunteers to help in program areas as well as to conduct specialty programs.
  • Aids STEAM Makerspace Director and Branch Directors in completing reports and projects as requested by Administrative and/or Development staff.
Health & Safety:
  • Ensures program area remains safe, clean, and organized.
  • Implements and ensures adherence to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale’s policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates sound judgement and decision-making. Acts quickly in emergency situations.
  • Maintains equipment and property to ensure that it stays in good working order.
  • Uses positive guidance and discipline techniques to redirect member behavior issues.
  • Utilizes active supervision techniques when working with Club members.
Resource Management:
  • Assists with gathering and assembling materials/supplies needed for makerspace programming activities and special STEAM event activities. Delivers materials/supplies to each Branch.
  • Ensures inventory levels at each Branch are within established limits. Documents and communicates inventory shortages and excess to STEAM Makerspace Director.
  • Assists with set up, installation, and assembly of new equipment/tools.
  • Ensures equipment at each Branch is in proper working order. Troubleshoots equipment as needed. Reports required repairs/maintenance to STEAM Makerspace Director.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Supports and mirrors the culture, mission, values, and core beliefs of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale.
  • Promotes an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces diversity.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience in a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ work experience in youth development.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to Club’s changing needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cooperative working skills.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite and be comfortable adapting to new technology.
  • Ability to earn and maintain CPR and First Aide certifications.
  • Maintains a valid driver’s license and meets eligibility requirements to drive Club vehicles.
  • Flawless ethics and integrity.
  • Safety oriented mindset.
Recommended:
  • Direct youth programming experience.
  • Experience working in a non-profit setting.
  • Experience or familiarity with tools such as 3D printing, AutoCAD, Arduino, Makey-Makey, Codecademy, Tynker, Scratch, BeeBot, and Lego MindStorms.
