Summary
This position operates the Molasses Desugarization Plant in a safe and efficient manner
Principal Working Relationships
- Supervisor Campaign: Shift Superintendent, Sugar End Technician
- Supervisor Inter-Campaign: Shift Superintendent, Sugar End Technician
- Others: MDS Assistant, Extra Gang (MDS)
Essential Job Duties
- The MDS Operator operates the MDS plant in a safe and efficient manner, and as directed by supervision
- The MDS Operator must understand and be able to apply their knowledge of the following:
- Raw Material and Product Storage, Handling, and Composition (including molasses, raffinate, betaine, extract, upgrade, etc.)
- Molasses Filtration
- Simulated Moving Bed Separator Theory and Operation
- Steam, Evaporator, and Condensate Theory and Operation
- Chemical Feed Systems (including antifoams, filter aid, soda ash, caustic, etc.)
- Laboratory Operations ( including gathering of MDS samples and running the analysis)
- Assure that all areas are kept clean within the safety, food safety, feed safety, and sanitation guidelines
- Complete reports as required
- Develop the process and mechanical knowledge and skills of self and others through training
- Use people, time, equipment, and material in the most efficient manner
- Report mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, environmental, food safety, feed safety, and operational problems, and unsafe conditions to supervisor
- Other duties as required by the business
- Adhere to all company policies and all safety, food safety, feed safety, and sanitation rules and programs
Qualifications
- High school education or equivalent
- Process related experience
- Prior satisfactory training and competent fill-in as MDS Operator
- Should be motivated, willing, enthusiastic, and promotable
- Good attendance, safety, disciplinary, and overall employment records
- Ability to communicate and work cohesively with others
- Inter-campaign maintenance skills greater than or equal to Mechanic III
- Organized with excellent time management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels
Starting Wage: $19.80/hr. Employees working rotating shifts receive an additional $3.00 PER HOUR!
