Job description
ConMet is looking for an exceptional Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of commercial vehicle solutions. In this role, you will design projects for improved bearings, seals, lubricants, and wheel end components in collaboration with subject matter experts, internal and external to ConMet. You will manage relationships with existing and new suppliers and technical partners to integrate new designs, achieve program goals and move the industry forward.
In the role of Mechanical Design Engineer you will work with a team of engineers to determine technical requirements for new products and engage in iterative design optimization processes. You will utilize simulation tools to identify product improvement opportunities and lead new projects through prototyping, testing, and into production. You will push the boundaries of conventional design to develop cost effective technologies and uncover new value for customers.
This role is based at ConMet's corporate headquarters in Vancouver, Washington.
Travel: approximately 10% to customer sites
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Acts as a customer engineering liaison, building and maintaining a strong customer network.
- Supports and manages new wheel end development projects with responsibility for setting priorities, meeting customer deadlines, and coordinating required activities via the APQP process.
- Creates and maintains project schedule and milestone tracking to drive projects to successful completion ensuring accountability amongst all key stakeholders.
- Creates project justifications and ensures target financial goals are achieved.
- Facilitates decision making and/or selection of products, components or specific product development projects.
- Drives for continuous improvement of ConMet products and ConMet product development processes.
Required Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in product development, including project management.
- History of successful direct customer support and relationship development
Preferred Experience
- Commercial vehicle (including trailer) experience.
- Experience with the PPAP process and quality documentation including PFMEA’s, DFMEA’s, Control Plans, and APQP checklists. Foundry manufacturing and finishing processes experience and knowledge.
- Experience with PLM systems / Teamcenter.
