POSITION OVERVIEW
The Mechanical Designer - Industrial plays a key role in the successful execution of projects, focusing primarily on the production of AutoCAD drawings and 3D models. Reporting to a Senior Project Manager, the Mechanical Designer is responsible for producing quality construction documents and coordinating design work with other engineering disciplines. The successful candidate will also be expected to work within a team environment and collaborate with other project team members.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Layout and design mechanical systems for assigned projects
- Site plans
- General Arrangement Drawings
- P&ID’s
- Preliminary stage engineering documents (drawings, schematics, etc.)
- Construction Documents
- Creation of 3D-models (utilizing AutoPlant 3D), modeling of process equipment, piping design
- Produce 2D piping plans and piping isometric drawings
- Materials handling systems (conveyance, hoppers/bins, dryers, dust collection, ductwork and spouting, etc.) design experience
- Perform design work on complex and diverse projects, often requiring multiple technologies
- Field work during design phase of projects to verify existing conditions, determine new equipment locations, establish routing and elevations of piping and ductwork, confirm dimensions and document piping tie-in locations
- Coordinate project design with other disciplines (structural, civil, electrical, etc.)
- Perform accurate design calculations and measurements
- Conducts construction observations
- Sizes and selects components for mechanical systems
- Collaborate with others as a CAD and design resource and provide training when assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- AAS Degree in Design/Drafting.
- Experience in one or more of the following:
- Agribusiness process plants
- Facility manufacturing
- Food Manufacturing Facilities
- Central boiler and/or chiller plants
- Biofuels plants
- Chemical production plants
- Mechanical/piping design
- AutoCAD 2D experience is required; being skilled at 3D AutoCAD and/or REVIT would be highly desired
- Field experience is not required, but is desirable
- Capable of operating with minimal supervision
- Ability to travel by car and/or air to project sites, and remain for brief overnight stays

EDUCATION
An AAS Degree in design/drafting is required. Additionally, 5+ years design experience at an engineering firm and/or in a construction capacity is preferred.
