JOB DESCRIPTION:

A mechanical foreman supervises, and under certain conditions may perform, locomotive and railcar inspection, maintenance, and repair in mechanical shops and on line-of-road. Mechanical foremen are responsible for safe and efficient movement of cars and locomotives in and around mechanical shop facilities. Mechanical foremen also have responsibility for parts (inventory) control, shop administration and production, safety, and personnel management.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

While the mechanical foreman position entails primarily shift work, a mechanical foreman must be prepared to work longer hours, in all weather conditions, and, at times, on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

• High School diploma or GED equivalent
• Extensive knowledge of locomotive and/or car (air brake) maintenance and repair
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Conversant with locomotive and/or railcar industry (AAR), statutory, and regulatory requirements; and prior supervisory experience.
• Exemplifies CPKC Vision, Values, and Culture in each and every interaction with team, clients, and stakeholders.

PREFERRED:

Journeyman Machinist and/or Electrician License.

UNION MEMBERSHIP:

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement and the successful applicant will be required to join the union. Monthly union dues are required and will be deducted from the employee’s paycheck.
