Job Summary
The ODA Unit Member is a subject matter expert in their field for existing and new technology and all associated regulations and regulatory policy. Their primary responsibility will be the development of certification plans and findings of compliance in accordance with those plans. This will include providing mentorship and guidance to the project team as required for the successful development of compliance showings. A secondary responsibility will be research into new technologies and the development of proposed means of compliance and/or coordination with the FAA on new regulations or regulatory policy needed to support the new technology. This position is for Mechanical Systems in the areas of Environmental Control Systems, Icing, and/or Vibration.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Performs work using frequent application of in-depth engineering principles
- Completes complex development, design, testing and certification assignments for new designs and modifications
- Develop certification plans for proposed designs including the development of PSCP and Issue Paper responses
- Establish conformity requirements and witness certification testing
- Reviews design, analysis, and test reports and makes findings of compliance once complete and acceptable
- Approve type design data and data supporting major field repairs and alterations
- Provide guidance to engineers on complex design problems which must be resolved during development and company testing
- Research new technologies and develop proposals for associated means of compliance
- Coordinate with FAA and participate on industry committees to develop new means of compliance
Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
- Ten years’ recent experience in part 23 or 25 aircraft design and certification.
- Ability to demonstrate integrity, sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to effectively manage stress, including competing work demands and multiple projects at the same time.
- Experience with Environmental Control Systems, Icing, and/or vibration.
Distinguishing Education and/or Experience
- Advanced technical degrees (MS, PhD) in Engineering or related fields.
- A current or recent delegation appointment as a DER or ODA Unit Member is strongly preferred
- Familiarity with Integrated Avionics (e.g. G1000, G3000, etc.) avionics suites
- Familiarity with Avionics Systems, Software, and Hardware Processes (ARP-4754/DO-178/DO-254)
- Familiarity with DO-160 equipment environmental qualification
- Process development experience (Six Sigma or others)
- Pilot or Ground School experience
- Current or past DER tickets in the areas of ECS, Icing, or Vibration.
