This role is dedicated to creating a positive first impression for appointments in Thoracic Surgery at Sibley. The Medical Assistant - Thoracic Surgery will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse and will perform specialized patient care functions for patients in a fast-paced environment. Delivers patient care in an outcome-oriented, safe, therapeutic, compassionate and cost effective manner. Through skilled triage and assessment, education, collaboration and coordination of healthcare and community resources, The MA assists patients to achieve optimum functional health status and quality of life.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Access hospital information systems via computer to complete patient registration.
- Triage telephone calls appropriately.
- Obtain medical records to facilitate patient appointments.
- Post surgical cases on behalf of the provider.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Certified Nursing Assistance license or equivalent, comparable training/job experience and ability to demonstrate needed
skills.
3. American Heart Association BLS
4. At least one year oncology experience strongly preferred.
