Jail Psychiatric Services (JPS) is a satellite, contract program of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The program provides traditional inpatient and outpatient mental health services to inmates incarcerated inside the two Sacramento County jails located at 651 I Street in downtown Sacramento, and Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center (R3C) in Elk Grove

Responsibilities
The role of this position is to provide direct care to inmate/patients on the Acute Inpatient Unit located at the Main Jail. Duties include: vital signs, observations of inmates during rounds, documentation in the inmate/patient EMR, and administrative support to nursing staff on the unit.
Required Qualifications
  • 1 Year of recent MA Experience in a similar setting
  • Must have Certificate of Completion from a medical assistant training program
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification
  • Front Office experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Forensic experience

Special Requirements
Ability to work in a highly stressful jail custody setting with incarcerated inmates which may present hazardous conditions, including working in a noisy environment, of a highly restrictive and containing nature. Must be in good physical health, hear and speak well and effectively communicate in English, orally and in written form.
Willingness to work under an institutional “No Hostage Policy”.
Willingness and ability to work under an institutional “No Smoking Policy”.
Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including holiday and weekends as scheduled and assigned.
Ability to maintain Sheriff’s Department security clearance.
Ability to comply with biannual TB clearance.
Must be able to work occasional overtime and flexible hours.
Maintain current CPR Certification.
This position is subject to background investigation, including a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department security clearance.
This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
