Job description

The Medical Assistant will prepare patients for provider exam, take vital signs, record patient history and assist in office procedures

  • Administer treatment, medications and injections as ordered
  • Conducts pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating patient charts prior to appointment with recent test results and correspondence
  • Call patient regarding test results as instructed by provider

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Greets patient upon arrival
  • Stock exam rooms with supplies and maintain inventory
  • Perform Clia Waived Testing
  • Perform all quality assurance and all quality control processes
  • Maintains medical supplies and cleaning/sterilization of the medical instruments and equipment
  • Prepare specimen samples for laboratory transportation
  • Note brief history or the reason for visit in the patient's chart
  • Take and record height, weight, and blood pressure, pulse rate, respiration, temperature and notify provider of unusual changes
  • Take health and family history
  • Administer treatment, medications and injections as ordered and document appropriately
  • Prepare and drape patients for examinations
  • Ensure that patients have been properly instructed, using the approved written instructions, regarding proper preparations for tests/procedures that have been ordered by the provider
  • Assist the provider with the patient examinations, treatment and surgical procedures
  • Complete all charting by the end of each day
  • Adhere to the Medical Assistant's scope of practice at all times
  • Answers phone calls, takes detailed telephone messages and documents all patient communication in patient's chart
  • Responds to patient communications and transfers calls or delivers complete messages to the appropriate individual per practice protocol
  • Files/scans patient charts and records
  • Maintains strict confidentiality; and treats staff, physicians, patients and visitors with respect
  • Performs selected clerical and administrative duties, and assists physicians as part of the care team
  • Be willing to learn new procedures or accept new assignments, to maintain office operations all employees will be cross-trained in both the front and back office
  • Arrive at work on time, begin work promptly and be available until the end of assigned shift
  • Maintain net, legible and organized written records
  • Maintain a neat, clean and organized work area.
  • Comply with office safety, infection control, universal precaution and exposure policies
  • Maintain an awareness of changes in policies, procedures and protocol
  • Demonstrate effective communication skill by conveying necessary information
  • Demonstrate good judgment in handling situations not covered by written or verbal instructions
  • Display a profession attitude through performance, appearance and demeanor
  • Dress in a neat, clean and appropriate manner per the office dress code
  • Assists with emergencies as needed
  • Performs other related work as required
  • Follow written and verbal instructions of supervisor and providers
  • All other duties as directed by management

Education and/or Experience :

  • Must have successfully completed and graduated from a medical assistant program
  • Must have or be eligible for either the State or National Medical Assistant Certification
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Skill in identifying and resolving problems
  • Ability to exercise a degree of initiative and judgment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and coworkers
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Proficiency in the operation of a computer; Microsoft Office and other office equipment
  • Must have a current CPR Certificate
