Patient Care
I. Summary of Responsibilities
This position serves GI office patients.
Job Classification: Category I - A position in which an employee has occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens
II. Qualifications
A. Education: Medical Assistant Certification and/or Associates Degree Preferred
B. Skills: Good communication skills
III. Job Relationships
A. Reports to Patient Care Director
B. Regular interaction with Providers
C. Works cooperatively with Providers and DDA staff of Patient Care as well as other departments
IV. Physical Activities and Requirements
A. Good portion of each day spent standing/walking
B. Risk of exposure to tuberculosis, flu and other airborne viral contaminants, also HIV, Hepatitis
V. Responsibilities – The duties and responsibilities of Patient Care Personnel include, but are not limited to:
A. Take patients to exam rooms, gathering all necessary information for providers (i.e. height, weight, vitals, verifying allergies/meds, entering information into EMR when applicable, verifying previous information in EMR)
B. Assist providers with physical exams/sigmoidoscopies/bandings as needed
C. Administer Breath Tests
D. Call patients with normal test results at provider’s request
E. Answer/return calls to patients with questions or concerns when necessary
F. Receive and distribute all EMR documents and emails
G. Order and pre-authorize special injectable and oral medication
H. Hepatitis C patient follow up with lab orders and results, when LPN unavailable
I. Order and monitor sample medications
J. File and track lab and radiology orders to make sure that patients follow through with their care as directed by the providers
K. Track procedure and pathology reports and forward to providers
L. Enter recalls in EMR
M. Keep exam rooms clean, neat and stocked at all times
N. Collect Bio Hazard Red Bags each month for pick up
O. Take inventory as needed to accurately order supplies
P. Schedule procedures, office visits, labs, radiology and consultations when necessary
Q. Log off, shut down and place laptop computers in locked exam room cabinet each evening
R. Other duties as assigned
*** Background Check Requirement ***
As a condition of employment, a complete background investigation will be conducted based on the rules of the specific State in which the employee is hired. Typically, the state investigative process includes a state and federal background check. In addition, a drug screen will be required. TB testing will also be required for all patient-facing roles.
