Medical Assistant

OB/GYN Associates of Bergen County, a member of Lifeline Medical Associates, has been in private practice for over 40 years. We are actively seeking one or two qualified Medical Assistant candidates (Full-Time) to join our busy women's healthcare medical practice. (*Note: Local College Student/Graduate with interest in Women's Healthcare; who can work a consistent 20-30 hour work week are welcome to apply for a short-term opportunity (1-2 years) during their medical or graduate school application process).

Our staff includes One-Board Certified OB/GYN physician, a Nurse Practitioner and a host of qualified support staff that possess a special interest in women's healthcare. Our entire staff recognizes the importance of their daily contributions within the field of women's health that ultimately translates to a more enhanced patient experience. In addition, we maintain privileges at The Valley Hospital (Ridgewood NJ) and Meridian Health Pascack Valley (Westwood NJ) which are known as two of the finest hospitals in Northern New Jersey.

The ideal candidate will possess an engaging personality, the ability to maintain professionalism and organization in a busy environment. Strong computer skills are essential and necessary in this mostly paperless medical practice. This patient-oriented individual will also be able to meet the following job description and possess the following skills.

Job Description:

The Medical Assistant position provide the patients with their initial intake experience where the patient experience begins. Therefore, the individual is expected to provide exceptional customer-service to the patients, guests and vendors. This individual is responsible for the efficient and accurate processing of patient health information (PHI); and should have the ability to be responsive to patient’s needs in-person, over the telephone and within our computer technology.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Greets patients when entering the practice
  • Obtains accurate medical history and updates patient demographic and insurance information
  • Educates patients on health insurance participation rules
  • Schedules in-office appointments and electronic telehealth appointments for new and existing patients. Scheduling follow-up appointments (Front Desk)
  • Performs insurance verification, when needed
  • Answer, prioritize and transfer calls through screening process
  • Multi-Tasking and problem solving
  • Maintain proper communication with all patients waiting for service
  • Collects co-pays and outstanding balances with confidence (Front Desk)
  • Performs follow-up services for patients in a prompt and courteous manner, such as confirming Doctor’s orders, room set-up and assist, etc.
  • Files medical results and records to EHR system properly and effectively. Some paper medical charting, on occasion
  • Daily clinical and clerical tasks
  • Maintains and updates departmental manuals and files
  • Adheres to the standards identified in Employee Policy Manual
  • Cooperates with co-workers to achieve specific goals
  • Maintain a clean and sanitized work space
  • All Lifeline employees are expected to keep abreast on current medical requirements relevant to their position, which includes maintaining patient confidentiality and abiding by all HIPAA and OSHA requirements

Position skills:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Familiar with computer terminology
  • Answer calls in a professional manner
  • Prior experience in a medical practice (OB/GYN experience is a plus)
  • Ability to keep information and work space organized
  • Prior experience with (EHR) Electronic Health Records (Nextgen EHR is a plus)
  • Possess Strong computer skills (We are primarily a paperless office)
  • Create documents Word and Excel
  • Utilize email and tasking software for communication between staff and patients
  • Maintain level-stock in all exam rooms, lab and common areas
  • Sanitize work stations and exam rooms after each use
  • Emotional Intelligence - the ability to anticipate unstated needs and understand patient’s emotional states
