Summary:
Boulder Medical Center (BMC) is currently seeking Medical Assistants (MA) candidates to join our Vaccine Clinic! This position works per diem / as needed running flu and vaccine clinics for Pediatric patients. Job Responsibilities:
- Recognizes, evaluates, and responds to emergency or unusual situations in the clinic using judgment within skill level to obtain additional help, if needed, to ensure proper medical care.
- Prepares examination/treatment rooms for provider’s use by ensuring that appropriate supplies, equipment, and instruments are available and ready on a daily basis. Maintains examination/treatment rooms in a neat and orderly manner.
- Assists as needed and/or instructs the patient in preparation for the provider’s examination and/or specific treatment.
- Assists the provider with examination by anticipating needs for instruments and supplies (e.g., minor surgery, pelvic examinations, diagnostic procedures, etc.)
- Performs routine procedures within skill level and certification per provider’s order.
- Collects specimens from patients per visit protocol or provider’s order in accordance with CLIA performance standards. When ordered, performs and documents waived/non waived testing in both the electronic record and CLIA paper log. Correctly labels laboratory specimens prior to sending to the laboratory verifying lab order has been entered into patient’s electronic record. When required, prints out requisition from patient’s medical record to accompany specimen to lab.
- Records all medical information in the patient’s electronic medical record (EMR) (i.e. vitals signs, treatments, special procedures, and/or instructions), according to BMC EMR protocol.
- Administers, and documents in EMR for all prescribed, OTC medications and drug samples, according to BMC EMR protocol.
- Submits electronically and/or faxes new prescriptions and refill prescriptions according to provider orders in a timely manner. Records all new prescription and refill information in EMR per BMC EMR protocol.
- Understands and uses Patient Portal (where applicable) for non-urgent patient communication following BMC guidelines.
- Provides additional basic instructions and basic information to patients regarding medical care as ordered by the provider (i.e., use of crutches, use of specific medications, etc.)
- Teaches basic procedures to patients and their families regarding specific outpatient medical care within own skill limitations as ordered by the provider.
Required Experience:
Universal Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to recognize and identify patient’s symptoms and use appropriate professional judgment in course of action.
- Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel to and work at all four (5) BMC sites, as assigned.
- Must be available by phone to accept assignment changes as needed.
Requirements:
- MA - Completion of an approved course of Medical Assistant study. Must possess current MA certification or registration from an accredited entity.
- EMT certificate is also accepted credentials.
- College Graduate - Completion of a Health Science degree; applicant must provide a copy of their unofficial college transcripts for review by the Nursing Department for approval of MA job placement,
Experience:
- Previous experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinic setting, preferred.
- MA - $16.54 - $22.57 / per hour depending on experience
