Our busy orthopedic practice is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Medical Assistant for our South office. The successful applicant will be cross trained to perform administrative, clinical duties, and assist our healthcare team with documenting patient medical records.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Record patients’ medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean
  • Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height
  • Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physicians
  • Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, or physicians’ instructions to patients
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Perform general office duties, such as answering telephones, entering patient histories, or completing insurance forms
  • Schedule appointments for patients
  • Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments or materials, and setting up for injections, or performing such tasks as removing sutures or staples, casting, or splinting
  • Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for test or admission
  • Protects patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information
  • Stocks and maintains exam rooms and clinic areas with standard levels of supplies, medications, linens, forms and equipment. Notifies clinic manager when supplies are short
  • Ensures that needle containers and potentially infectious waste are appropriately disposed and removed from the clinic and exam areas according to the infection control guidelines
  • Accompany physicians into the patient examination room in order to transcribe a history and physical exam, and document accurately the physician’s encounter with the patient and others present
  • List all proper diagnosis and symptoms as well as follow up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the physician
  • Transcribe patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications, etc.
  • Document any procedures performed by the physician
  • Document work processes as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Performs related and delegated tasks, which includes request for prescription refills, taking and relaying messages, directing patient flow and running errands. Filling out forms for the physician or the patient
  • Provides appropriate patient education and health information materials that the physician might request
  • Maintains operations by following policies and procedures regarding employee or patient concerns; reporting needed changes to immediate supervisor
  • Operates the fax machine, copier, and multi-line phone systems.
  • Monitor email for relevant company communications daily.
  • Must be available for mandatory company or department meetings.
  • Practice OSHA safety standards.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education/Experience/Licenses/Certificates/Eligibility: High School diploma or GED. Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Eligibility: All employees me be able to provide proof of their identity and their right to work in the United States.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
