POSITION TITLE: Medical Biller


DEPARTMENT: Patient Financial Services


REPORTS TO: Patient Financial Services Director


The Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act requires employers in the state of Colorado to disclose the following information. Hourly (salary) minimum $16.51, hourly (salary) maximum $20.43. The base hourly (salary) range above represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual hourly (salary) rates may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to: experience, education, and training.

Pay is just one component to prospective employees’ compensation package. Compensation may also include shift differentials. JOB PURPOSE: To improve the health and wellbeing of our communities.


BASIC FUNCTION: The Medical Biller facilitates the billing of insurance companies for all clinic and clinic-based physician bills and facility bills. Completes and verifies ICD-10 coding. Inputs and maintains all payment records in database system. Compiles amounts owed and pursues collection and follows up on all claims until payment is made by insurance companies, Medicare, and Medicaid. Follows up on denied and rejected Medicare and Medicaid claims. Appeals claims to Medicare and Medicaid. Performs other work associated with the billing process. Fills in for Account Representatives at times. Other duties include but are not limited to preparing accounts for cost reports, reviewing, researching, coding, and generating third party billing for GRHD. Cross trains with other positions in the business office. Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Post high school courses in insurance billing, data processing and medical terminology preferred.


Experience: Critical Access Medicare / Medicaid billing experience highly preferred. One year prior experience in billing of third party insurances preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to bill third party insurance for facility and professional claims by hard copy and electronically. Knowledge of third party billing requirements preferred. Must show maturity in dealing with fellow employees. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. Prior billing experience and knowledge highly preferred. Must be able to type 35 wpm and operate a CRT and personal computer. Must be proficient within six (6) months of hire in HealthStream, Kronos, Instamed, Meditech, Experian/SSI, Galactica, Medicaid Portal, Allscripts ED, Allscripts PM, Allscripts Touchworks, and LTC and FISS programs.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
