POSITION SUMMARY

The role supports The Centers for Disease Control (CDC), specifically the The Program Development and Services Branch (PDSB) within The Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention’s (DHDSP’s). The primary goal is to provide medical expertise and leadership to these government teams.

PDSB implements an array of state based Notice of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) aimed at reducing the prevalence, morbidity, and mortality of cardiovascular disease and the burden of health disparities and inequities in underserved populations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical consultation to PDSB staff and collaborators regarding clinical and health systems-related efforts being implemented via partnership and collaborations with NOFO recipients, national non-governmental organizations, health systems, payers, and providers, as deemed appropriate
  • Collaborate with Scientists within the Branch and Division to conduct epidemiological studies of cardiovascular disease, stroke and the associated risk factors, costs, and contributors to health inequities and disparities
  • Provide support and technical expertise related to epidemiological methodology, theories, principles, and methods used to analyze scientific data from complex national surveys/data systems and carry out a variety of data collection and analytical activities relative to a broad range of health science topics and within clinical settings
  • Provide ad-hoc statistical analyses in support of heart disease and stroke prevention activities
  • Present findings of research and surveillance activities related to cardiovascular disease
  • Analyze and interpret data and for use in CVD research and surveillance
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in the areas of CVD and the impact of health disparities, and social determinants of health on CVD outcomes in identified populations
  • Analyzes existing written and web-based content and materials in terms of purpose, content, format, effectiveness, and necessity and, in collaboration with other program staff, coordinate revision of materials as needed
  • Collaborate with various staff members to obtain, analyze, and select pertinent subject matter information and illustrative material
  • Provide advice and assistance to authors preparing technical and scientific information for publication
  • Document reviews of literature related to heart disease and stroke including abstracts, full text articles and summary of information from the reports.
  • Analyze results from epidemiological studies and work collaboratively with DHDSP scientist to co- author and submit publications summarizing the results in peer-reviewed journals
  • Document the use of appropriate statistical methods and conduct statistical analyses and complex statistical modeling of heart disease and stroke estimates and health outcomes using a variety of data sources and conducting data analysis using SAS, SUDAAN and other statistical software as required
  • Maintain detailed documentation including codebooks with variable names and values for new data sources, annotating statistical programs summarizing and referencing statistical methods, and providing detailed tables of statistical results
  • Present results of research and surveillance activities on telephone calls, at conferences and public meetings.
  • Produce and revise statistical analyses, data tables, and summaries of data and methods in written reports
  • Serve as a SME and develop resource materials in areas of Women’s Health, Internal Medicine, and Cardiovascular Disease
  • Conducts interviews and gather information for content
  • Work with IRB, PRA and OMB to get proper determinations and approvals
  • This position performs additional duties as assigned, given adequate guidance and resources.

EDUCATION, LICENSURE, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Doctorate Degree in Medicine
  • Valid US Medical License (unrestricted)
  • Preferred Board Certification, including but not limited to Cardiology, Infectious Diseases,
  • Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Family Practice; and knowledge and experience with COVID-19 patient care or public health and/or vaccines, and hypertension, stroke, heart failure or other CVD-related outcomes.
  • 7 years of experience in:
  • Medical knowledge in areas of Women’s Health, Internal Medicine, and Cardiovascular Disease, particularly related to hypertension, stroke, and heart failure, and the impact of these conditions on disparate populations
  • Flexibility to work across multiple disciplines of medicine and public health
  • Knowledge of epidemiological methodology, theories, principles, and methods used to analyze scientific data from complex national surveys/data systems and carry out a variety of data collection and analytical activities relative to a broad range of health science topics and within clinical settings
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the theories, principles, and concepts of epidemiology and/or related health sciences to formulate hypotheses regarding health status and health outcomes and conduct meaningful analyses and interpretation of data
  • Provide technical consultation to PDSB staff and collaborators regarding clinical and health systems-related efforts being implemented via partnership and collaborations with NOFO recipients, national non-governmental organizations, health systems, payers, and providers, as deemed appropriate
  • Knowledge of written communication methods and techniques to communicate skillfully and clearly complex scientific and/or technical information for publication in scientific journals and/or for peer review
  • Knowledge of the principles, concepts, methods, and techniques of the scientific field or specialization of the position to analyze, evaluate and provide expert advice and consultation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and Google Suite
  • Strong project and time management skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a primarily remote setting. See travel information in the Travel section.This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is largely a sedentary role.

TIMELINE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

Estimated Start Date is September 14, 2022. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, with a Part Time Schedule less than 40 hours. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

All salary and benefits will be discussed during interviews. Salary will be based on commensurate experience. Only full time employees are eligible for benefits programs.

TRAVEL

10% of total time or less and as business requires. Limited travel may be required to participate in meetings with awarded recipients for site and/or technical visits to provide oversight and program review. Limited travel may also be required to attend professional trainings and/or certifications.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $40.00 - $75.00 per hour
