The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) Immunogenetics Laboratory has an outstanding opportunity available for qualified a Medical / HLA Technologist. Located next to the beautiful Inner Harbor area of Baltimore, Maryland, our laboratory is the provider of histocompatibility testing for the UMMC Kidney, Pancreas, Liver, Heart, Lung and Stem Cell Transplant programs.
As a Medical HLA Technologist you will serve as a fully effective and participative member of a multidisciplinary patient care services team. You will be responsible for quality, efficiency and safety in the performance of all laboratory functions to include performing complex analyses on a variety of sample types, maintaining proper records and utilizing independent judgment to generate quality test results.
Histocompatibility testing methodologies include: Molecular typing (NGS, SSO, RT-PCR), Luminex microbead antibody assays, and flow cytometric crossmatch.
In addition to supporting organ transplantation, the UMMC Immunogenetics Laboratory provides Flow Immunology services. Testing methodologies include: Stem Cell (CD34) Enumeration, TBNK Lymphocyte Subset Analysis and Diagnostic Immunophenotyping for Leukemia and Lymphoma.
This is a full time position with flexible hours and shared on-call responsibilities.

What You Need to Be Successful:
Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary in order to perform your daily tasks efficiently. The Medical HLA technologist position requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. The successful candidate must be able to work in a highly technical, precise environment.
Special skills and experience required:
Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Biological Science, or other related field.
Minimum two (2) years of experience in a clinical laboratory.
An ASCP or Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) certification is required.
