The Extraction Technician will assist the lab manager with the activities and operations required to complete the functions of the department in relation to producing CO2 extracted cannabis products. This position is responsible for assisting with a wide range of production, which includes but is not limited to training, operating, and maintaining the CO2 extraction machine as well as all equipment used in post processing. The individual will be responsible for inventory management, production of cannabis products, compliance requirements, and manufacturing safety. The position holder must study and comprehend all policies, procedures and operational guidelines set by the management team and must be willing and eager to learn.

Extraction Technician Requirements:

  • Assist the Extraction department in meeting production demands, quality and quantity, in accordance with Bloom Medicinals mission.
  • Ability to use standard lab equipment such as hotplate and stirrer, fume hood, cryo freezer, etc.
  • Ability to use standard cannabis packing equipment such as scale, grinder, tamper seals, etc.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform CO2 and ethanol extraction.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform basic lab processes such as winterization, emulsification, distillation, etc.
  • Package & label products accurately and effectively.
  • Oversee the quality of products daily, understanding the quality standards at Bloom Medicinals, and report quality issues to management.
  • Maintain, clean and service extraction spaces and equipment as required by procedures and manufacturer specifications.
  • Maintain open communication with the management team and co-workers.
  • Provide necessary support to production teams as assigned.
  • Ensure all standards for processing procedures and manufacturing protocols are followed in compliance with local, state, federal and Bloom Medicinals regulations.
  • Help to ensure our inventory counts are accurate and are correctly tracked in accordance with local, state, federal and Bloom Medicinals regulations.
  • Adherence to quality control methods throughout the entire process. Follow safety programs and protocols and provide updates as necessary.
  • Continually review the current system for operational efficiency and update processes as necessary.
  • Review training procedures and seek continued education to ensure delivery on all job functions.
  • Skill in analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions, and implementing recommendations in support of Bloom Medicinals philosophies and goals
  • Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences.
  • Possess a can-do attitude, resourceful, action oriented, reliable, and a team player. Motivated with flexibility and adaptability. Possess a sense of urgency, problem-solving, and organizational skills with great attention to detail.
  • Compliance with typical laboratory standards. Familiarity with OSHA guidelines for dealing with hazardous chemicals.
  • Understanding of applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations as they pertain to the industry, safety regulations, local municipal codes and organizational rules, regulations, directives and standard operating procedures.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Must pass all required background checks.
  • Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry.
  • Must obtain and retain a state-issued Medical Cannabis ID badge.

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two or four-year degree in chemistry, biology, or related S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) field preferred
  • Previous laboratory or manufacturing experience related to the job requirements are preferred
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered, including internal experience.

Physical Demands:

May be required to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift, carry and balance up to 50 pounds (200 pounds with assistance). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
