- Monday- 2pm-5pm
- Tues- 8:30am-12pm
- Wednesday- 2pm-5pm
- Friday- 8:30am-12pm
RESPONSIBLE TO: Site Manager of designated clinic
JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to handle time-consuming clerical responsibilities for physicians during patient encounters, enabling physicians to spend more time with individual patients and increase the overall flow of patients in the department. Medical Scribes accompany the physician and directly observe patient encounters. They accurately document the events and decision-making in a manner that results in appropriate medical charting in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Accompanies physician into the patient examination room and transcribes the encounter directly into the EMR system
- Accurate, timely charting of patient encounters, including but not limited to patient history, physical exams, diagnostic findings, lab and test results, consultations with other providers, treatment course, diagnoses, discharge instructions and prescriptions
- Proofreads and edits documentation for accuracy, conferring with physician as necessary
- Performs other clerical activities necessary to assist with processing of physician orders for tests and medications
- Complies with OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulatory standards
- Responsible for maintaining credentials in an active status
- Works with the management team to practice efficiently and effectively
- Attends meetings as required
- Performs related work as assigned
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current Certification as a Medical Scribe or Medical Assistant preferred
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum one year experience in the health care industry preferred
- Hands-on experience with EMR systems required; Greenway EMR experience preferred
- Ability to learn and appropriately apply basic medical terminologies, coding, and techniques taught and used on the job
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interact professionally with patients, physicians, and all levels of staff
- Ability to actively listen
- Ability to observe and to draft a narrative account of events accurately, with proper spelling, and in grammatically-correct English
- Skilled at operating computers and related software applications, with excellent keyboard proficiency
- Strong attention to detail
- Excels at operating in a fast pace, community environment
- Maintains strict confidentiality of patient information and office business practices
- Demonstrates compassion and caring in dealing with others
- Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor
- Neat, professional appearance
