HIRING FOR MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCATE

Salary: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour (Depending on education, experience, skillset and hiring site)

Hiring Locations: Santa Fe Springs, Whittier, and South Gate

Available Schedules:

  • First Shift
  • Second Shift
  • Weekdays
  • Weekend Only
  • Mix of Weekdays and Weekends

Summary: Under the supervision of the House Manager, the Mental Health Advocate is responsible for working with clients who suffer from mental disorders and overseeing the general supervision of the program.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Counsel and work with clients to make treatment decisions and plans, serving as their advocate to give clients a sense of autonomy and dignity, regardless of their disorder
  • Oversee and supervise all program and facility operations during assigned shift.
  • Maintain a daily log of all activity and including any incidents of a security or safety nature.
  • Maintain the safety and security of the facility.
  • Conduct random and requested UA tests for residents.
  • Participate in daily shift exchange including documenting in facility log at the end of each shift and thoroughly reviewing log at the start of the shift.
  • Be able to take trauma into account during the process of interacting with clients.
  • Avoid triggering trauma reactions and/or re-traumatizing clients.
  • Adjust own behavior and control own feelings in order to allow clients to learn how to manage trauma symptoms and be able to benefit from program services.
  • Know how to approach and work with individuals who suffer from mental disorders

Qualifications:

  • 1 year experience working with a population diagnosed with severe and/or moderate mental disorders (required)
  • Must be at least twenty-one years of age.
  • Trained to recognize the symptoms and signs of substance abuse and to respond to drug overdose
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Attention to detail; ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Maintain annual CPR Certification, First Aid Certification.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED;

Must be able to pass the following pre-employment screenings:

  • Background check, including criminal history (LA CADA considers all applicants equally and will take into account each applicant’s individual life circumstances).
  • Drug and health screen, including negative TB test
  • Employment and education verification

Additionally, L.A. CADA offers HIV / AIDS prevention and intervention services, including HIV testing.
