Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive individual and/or group counseling services to diverse students with a wide range of concerns including but not limited to the following: adjustment issues, interpersonal relationships, stress and time management, conflict issues, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, gender and sexuality, suicidality, and substance abuse.
• Utilize a model of therapy that is appropriate for the needs of the client.
• Promptly maintain clinical records following legal statutes and ethical codes.
• Provide crisis consultation and intervene as appropriate to preserve the safety of the client.
• Provide information and support to facilitate psychiatric hospitalization for students as required.
• Provide information, referral, and psychoeducation for individuals who are eligible for services.
• Consult with concerned families/friends of students, staff, and faculty, as requested, and within the limits of confidentiality and privacy.
• Create and deliver educational outreach programs on topics related to mental health.
• Establish group therapy, outreach, and programming for racial/ethnic populations that have been historically underserved.
• Represent the Counseling center at campus events as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Master’s Degree in Counseling or Social Work
• 5+ years of full-time and progressive experience in counseling services.
• Licensed in New Jersey to provide mental health services as an independent practitioner (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT) Knowledge skills and abilities:
• Ability to undertake independent projects and manage competing tasks.
• Working knowledge of regulatory compliance issues such as Title IX and the Clery Act.
• Professional standards of confidentiality, personal integrity, and ability to work closely with all constituencies of SEU.
• Ability to be a productive, high performing and collaborative team member in a fast-paced environment.
• Self-starter and demonstrated ability to work independently.
• Ability to respond calmly in crisis.
• Detail-oriented.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time; meticulous organizational skills with ability to set priorities and manage multiple responsibilities.
