Mental Health Worker New Alternatives, Inc.

Polinsky Children’s Center is looking for positive, motivated and compassionate individuals to work with and advocate for the residents of Polinsky Children’s Center. Polinsky Children’s Center (PCC) is a 24-hour facility for the temporary emergency shelter of children who have been placed in protective custody for their own safety due to abuse or neglect or their parents' inability to provide for them. Many of our clients have experienced complex trauma and have had several failed placements when arriving at PCC.

New Alternatives strives to be of service to our clients by providing therapeutic support for clients age 3 to a day before their 18 th birthday. Our skilled professionals work collaboratively with complex multi-disciplinary teams to provide evidence-based interventions from a trauma-informed lens.

New Alternatives, Inc. falls under the California Public Health Order and is additionally required by our county contract to ensure that all employees are vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19.

Basic Duties Include:

  • Build therapeutic relationships with the clients in order to encourage the healing of past relationship traumas and the development of healthy boundaries.
  • Assist in shaping client behavior through positive reinforcement and teach replacement behaviors for their mental health symptoms.
  • Document rehab services through Medi-Cal billing for the purpose of tracking youth’s progress, engagement, and high risk needs.
  • Engage youth in life skills training, skill building, cultural humility and increasing coping skills.
  • Collaborate with therapists, county personnel, caregivers, and other individuals involved in the client’s treatment. Remain available to assist with crisis assessment and intervention, as needed.
  • Participate in supervision, team meetings, CFTs, and case consultation Participate in trainings, exhibit competency and utilize evidence based & promising practices, as deemed appropriate

Ability to demonstrate:

  • Strong case management capabilities
  • Family Systems and Cultural competency
  • Effective crisis intervention and critical response skills
  • Strong Organizational, Communication, and Independent Skills

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the area of behavioral sciences required.
  • Experience in a mental health setting is preferred.
  • Bilingual/Bicultural Strongly preferred.

Hours:

  • Monday-Friday: 10:30am-7:00pm, With the possibility of weekend hours depending on the need of the program.
  • Weekend hours Sunday or Saturday 8:30am-5pm

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
