Job description
Summary: The Department Manager is responsible for all shifts department operations to include staffing, training, development, safety quality, productivity, delivery, and reporting KPI’s of the department. The position is accountable for directing Production Supervisors and Team Leaders as necessary to achieve department objectives; establishing process controls and performing training necessary to produce quality cosmetic products. Ensure all operations are performed in accordance with plant safety rules and plant hygiene standards is adhered to and maintained during production operations; and drive the culture for Schwan Cosmetics USA.
Reports To: VP of Operations
Titles Supervised: Production Supervisors, Team Leaders
- Direct Production Supervisors and Team Leaders as necessary to achieve department objectives. Ensure department is staffed to achieve production demand at standard production rates across all production shifts in the department. Manage departmental staffing and training to ensure efficient production operations are at or above standard rates and expected Schwan quality and safety standards.
Ensure adherence to plant safety rules, plant hygiene standards and preventative maintenance expectations. Responsible to identify and execute continuous improvement activities to improve department operations.
Provide reporting on department KPI’s and actions to improve below standard results. Provide departmental communication regarding department performance, safety topics, client projects, etc. to keep the department informed and included in daily activities. Utilize financial data to improve department performance via continuous improvement initiatives.
Support pilot and line trials to determine standard operating parameters and controls. Ensure those standards are followed. Responsible for identifying and executing continuous improvement activities to improve department operations.
Motivate and inspire employees to focus on safety, quality, productivity and deliver of performance. Provide learning and development opportunities to promote growth and build expertise. Set expectations and provide feedback to effectively evaluate performance. Make personnel decisions that enhance team performance.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, management, engineering, operations or other related field preferred.
Experience: 5+ years of manufacturing/operations/leadership/Lean Six Sigma experience preferred. Green belt or Black belt certification preferred.
