Our valued Mental Health Rehabilitation Technicians assist clients in the areas of basic life skills, helping clients to work on their short-term and long-term goals. Our employees help clients learn new skills, encourage positive behavior by use of positive reinforcement while documenting all services provided according to program policies and state licensing guidelines.
And the Community Navigation Support Specialist will provide transportation and needed support to residents of all our BH South program for access to provider visits and other community resources.
MHRT Responsibilities include:
- Work within a residential setting, providing mental health services to clients.
- Aid with patient care, treatment planning and management of social and adaptive skills.
- Assist individuals who are living with mental illness to maintain the highest level of independence possible.
- Support clients as they develop and support their skills of daily living and progress toward mental health recovery.
- Engage in meaningful physical and mental activities.
Community Navigation Support Specialist responsibilities include:
- Transport clients to required appointments, community service providers, and medical appointments and provide personal assistance if needed.
- Maintain reports of vehicle maintenance and mileage and ensures vehicle mileage is documented each time vehicle is used.
- Maintain the overall cleanliness of the BH program vehicle.
- Ensure the safety of the clients while in transit and observe all federal, state, and local laws always.
- Coordinate scheduled activities in conjunction with designated program staff.
This full-time position will require driving each program’s van. We anticipate the vast majority of the 40 hours/week will be spent as the Community Navigation Support Specialist, with few, if any a MHRT-1 at a program.
This is a unique role as it includes the opportunity to be out and about with residents, assisting them in a variety of ways, but it is also largely administrative in nature. We’ll need someone with excellent organization and MS Excel skills to keep client schedules organized. This position will also rely on communication and coordination with all our program’s management and staff for each day to run smoothly.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required; Proof of education will be required upon hire.
- Knowledge of basic life skills, understanding of community resources, implementation of individual training plans, and documentation of care preferred.
- Ability to self-motivate and initiate work independently as well as exhibit teamwork and collaborate effectively with all members of the team.
- Willingness to engage with clients and utilize appropriate de-escalation strategies when clients are in crisis.
- Excellent communication skills, including active listening, written, oral and record-keeping skills.
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to exhibit compassion and patience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Valid Maine driver's license and transportation required. The employee must have a good driving record and at least 3 years of driving experience to transport clients using their vehicle.
- Per the state of Maine regulations, all behavioral health, and IDD employees will have to submit proof of immunization records upon employment for the following: MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu, and COVID-19.
Upon hire, MUST be willing to obtain MHRT-1 through a paid training program with Volunteers of America within 1 year of employment.
