Volunteers of America Northern New England (Great Place to Work 2022/2023 certified) is seeking PART-TIME and PER DIEM Mental Health Rehabilitation Technicians (Residential Counselors) for our IRT-North programs located in Bangor, ME. This role will provide support in a home environment through role modeling, side-by-side assistance, through prompting, and through active engagement. Typical duties include medication oversight and administration, support with daily activities in the home such as cleaning/laundry, support to utilize skills and techniques to manage mental health symptoms and support with community and peer engagement.

PART-TIME: Weekly part-time hours will be available based on a general range of hours a qualified candidate is looking to pursue (between 8 hours and 30 hours/week, typically).
PER DIEM: Candidates that wish to work per diem have the ability to identify and take shifts based on availaibility, or can be placed on a set shift schedule based on the amount of hours they are willing to work. Per Diem classification will require a qualified candidate to pick up at least 4 shifts per month, totaling at least 32 hours (minimum, monthly).
Qualifications:
- High School diploma required; College education in relevant discipline or experience working within the behavioral health field preferred. Must pursue required education hours for certification if or as needed (we are willing to assist). Proof of education will be required upon hire.
- MHRT certification, preferred (not required).
- Knowledge of basic homemaking skills, understanding of community resources, implementation of individual training plans, and documentation of care preferred;
- Ability to self-motivate and initiate work independently.
- Demonstrated willingness to engage with clients; Ability to utilize appropriate de-escalation strategies/training when clients are in crisis.
- Excellent communication skills, including active listening, written, oral, and record-keeping skills;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook;
- Valid Maine driver’s license and reliable transportation required. The employee must have a good driving record and at least 3 years of driving experience to transport clients using their vehicle;
- Solid relationship-building skills, with the ability to exhibit compassion and patience.
- Per the state of Maine regulations, all behavioral health and IDD employees will be required to submit proof of immunization records upon employment for the following: MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu, and COVID-19.
