The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Information Systems and Services is looking for a Microcomputer/Network Specialist 2 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

The Information Systems and Services section supports the Department’s mission by developing and maintaining information systems. In this role, you will provide leadership and training to team members, responsible for planning and assigning work; and work in collaboration with the Dept. Technology Officer (DTO), DOT IS Team and OIT on preparation and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure service delivery expectations.
The working environment you can expect:
The preferred location for this position is Juneau or Ketchikan (primary). Will consider applicants who wish to work from Anchorage if there aren't any successful applicants for primary location.
Part-time telework may be an option for this position.
Position will have a rotational on-call requirement and will be provided a state-paid cell phone.
Position will require periodic travel to marine vessels and shoreside terminals to provide equipment installation or service troubleshooting assistance in collaboration with OIT and third party vendors.

What you will be doing:
DOT&PF is recruiting for a full-time, long-term, nonpermanent position. This position will accrue personal leave, enjoy 11 paid holidays a year, as well as have the option of health insurance and other benefits.
Incumbent will provide technology support services primarily for the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) within the Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) and work in collaboration with other IT professionals to provide customer service and technical support for a broad range of technology services across the AMHS vessel fleet and terminals.
This position is responsible for troubleshooting, analyzing, tracking and resolving hardware and software problems in a ticketing system to ensure service delivery fulfillment. This includes Windows Desktop Platforms, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Office 365, Endpoint Management Software & Solutions, Microsoft Teams, VoIP Phones, Network & Server Equipment, Microcomputer PC Laptop & Tablets, Printers/MFP’s, Cabling, Imaging, Configuring & Deploying Workstations, Mobile Devices and other technologies.
In addition, this position will manage user and computer objects in Active Directory, Group Policy, and may assist in maintaining, installing & monitoring servers, routers, switches and other server room equipment. This position collaborates with other OIT groups and DOT IS Team to assist with intrusion remediation, following security best practices.
Because you will occasionally be working on an Alaska state ferry, you must be eligible to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) which will require passing a background check.
Who we are looking for:
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the core competencies of:
- Ability to independently perform software and communication protocol upgrades on file servers and database servers.
- Prior responsibility as an assigned team leader and/or direct supervisor of subordinates.
- Experience assisting with analysis of network needs, and with network design and installation.
- Ability to install network-based software and perform system administration.
- Ability to communicate required actions to team members and network users.
Two years work experience in which the primary responsibility of the position was planning, installation, modification and administration of the employer's network(s). This is equivalent to Microcomputer/Network Specialist 1 with the State of Alaska.
Substitution: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with a major in computer
Networking, electrical engineering, data communication, computer science or a closely related field may substitute for one year of the required work experience.

fingerprinting may be required.

Base salary for:
- Anchorage ….. $ 2,731.50 /Bi-weekly
- Juneau …….…. $ 2,868.00 /Bi-weekly
- Ketchikan ….… $ 2,731.50 /Bi-weekly
Please be aware - this position requires the applicant (at their expense) to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) in compliance with federal regulations pertaining to certain maritime port facilities. All terminal employees are required to obtain a TWIC in order to work in certain restricted areas of the terminals.

If you are selected for the position, you will be required to immediately enroll/apply for the required TWIC card. The applicant selected for the position must have their TWIC card in hand in order to be unescorted within a restricted or secure area of the terminal facility.
DRIVER’S LICENSE REQUIREMENT
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.
