Mid - Sr Data Engineer

This position can be remote if you are not located near the NYC or College Park, MD office.

BlueVoyant’s Engineering team is growing! We are looking for a software engineer that will join our Data Engineering team serving critical analytics platforms. In this role you will work with a team of talented engineers using a suite of exciting technologies.

For this role you will need to have a solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals. You should have accumulated working knowledge of building and operating components at scale.

In this role you will be working mostly with Google Cloud Platform tools such as (Composer, GKE, GCE, BigQuery, DataProc, CloudSQL, CloudFunctions, PubSub, etc.). The codebase is in Java and Python. You will also need to be very comfortable interacting with large data sets.

The team leverages Apache Beam as part of our data ingestion and distribution process. This summer we were invited to speak at the Beam Summit in Texas where we presented some of the cool things we work on. The team owns BlueVoyant’s data lake which we operate out of Google Cloud using a suite of tools and our own proprietary technology built on top of it all to make it all perfect for our use cases. This is an exciting role for someone that enjoys being around smart people doing meaningful work.

There may be minimal, occasional travel to either New York, NY or College Park, MD. offices.

Requirements:

• At least 5 years of experience in development, test, and operational deployment of production software.
• Comfortable interacting with APIs (internal and external)
• Proficiency in Java and at least one other coding languages (Go, Python).
• CI/CD Best Practices.
• Experience with the GCP environment and deploying code in GCP
• Experience with Agile frameworks, secure software design, test-driven development, and modern, container-delivered code deployment in a cloud-based DevOps environment.
• At least a BS/BA in Comp. Sci., Engineering, or relevant field.

• Demonstrate familiarity with cloud-based, big data storage technology for handling structured (Postgres, MySQL, etc.) and unstructured (Elastic, Hadoop, etc.) data.
• Have experience in Internet-scale, streaming data handling (Beam, Kafka, Google PubSub, etc.)
• Have knowledge of or interest in Internet infrastructure, security technologies, and cybersecurity practices as an attacker/defender.
• Show initiative and ownership in the design and development of new product features while working alone or as part of a small team.

• Create systems that are maintainable, flexible and scalable
• Follow a disciplined development and engineering workflow and suggest improvements
• Be a subject matter expert in one or more of the technologies employed.
