Job description
As part of the Global Operations team, ensure timely and accurate settlement of domestic, foreign and currency transactions for all product types. This includes all operational aspects of processing transactions from trade confirmation, instruction, fail management, country opening documentation, and reconciliation. Manage broker/counter party, custodian and trader relationships whilst researching unmatched trades and failed transactions. Cross train and be multi-skilled in a variety of functions covering Trade Management (share class hedging, cash, and derivatives).

Responsibilities
- Lead the global process of contacting brokers or reviewing electronic trade matching to ensure domestic and international trades are matched on key trade information. Instruct the custodians timely to ensure settlement. Manually instruct on derivatives and currency transactions as needed. Maintain Settlements Instruction database with broker instructions.
- Manage any failed or unmatched transaction, both security and foreign exchange, executed by Columbia Management Investment Advisors (for every asset type Mutual funds, Institutional accounts, corporate accounts, etc.) All failed or unmatched trades must be confirmed with the proper counter party (either by phone or email) before the deadline to instruct our custodians and clients as well as to minimize the overall risk to the Operations Department.
- Manage global relationships with Brokers, Custodians and traders to ensure professional working relationships. Identify trends of failed trades to create new processes across these working teams to reduce risk for missing or incorrect instructions, or system limitations. Analyze and monitor department controls for risk and exposure and recommend and implement process improvements as needed to reduce risk.
- Escalate issues as appropriate to management. Ensure that the correct parties have been notified and actively work to see the issue through to resolution. Identify trends of failed trades to reduce risk for missing or incorrect instructions, or system limitations.
- Provide SME/operational expertise for testing of systems, generating ad-hoc reports and assisting in miscellaneous projects, as needed, for enhancements or regulatory requirements. Provide information and answer questions for audits and risks assessments i.e. from external and internal audit and risk functions.
- Provide support for various projects and other changes initiatives for the Product and Sales teams, Compliance and other departments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree
- 1 to 3 years of experience
- Working knowledge of the securities markets and the trade settlement process.
- Working knowledge of the Investment process including Compliance, Accounting, and Administration.
- Good knowledge of the unit dealing system, CLAUDE and proficiency in Excel.
- Thorough knowledge of the securities markets and trade settlement processes
- Detail orientated with an ability to recognize errors/issues and potential financial impacts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent problem solving skills.
- Ability to take initiative and remain a team player
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Ability to adapt to change and flexibility to rapidly acquire knowledge of new operational processes
- Proficiency in MS Office – specifically Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to collaborate with cross functional teams and work across time zones with colleagues in other operational locations.
- Experience in trading, settlements and accounting systems (DTC Trade Suite, Oasys, Omgeo, TNM, Alert, CTM, GTSS, Aladdin, VCON, Market Axcess, Trade Web, Clear PAR, SWIFT, Etc.)
