JOB SUMMARY:
Middle School seeks an innovative and highly collaborative person who embodies our mission and is passionate about working with our students and faculty for a start in August 2023. This individual will grow their practice through partnership with colleagues and administration. The primary role of MS French Teacher is to support students in providing personalized, inquiry-based opportunities that celebrate children’s talents and interests. This person needs to be passionate about inquiry-based, student-centered learning. Working as part of a team is crucial to each students’ social, emotional, and academic success. The ideal candidate will continually evolve the designing, organizing, and implementing of relevant curriculum in interdisciplinary ways.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND TASKS:
Plans, prepares, and teaches scheduled classes for students in grades 6-8, integrating movement skills appropriate to grade level.
Evaluates learning activities that teach wellness literacy to students.
Demonstrates a desire for feedback and a dedication to excellence.
Grades and assess student work.
Executes all functions of an advisor for homeroom and community time including social and emotional learning curriculum and academic advising.
Supports auxiliary programs of the school as needed.
Develops relationships with your students, so that each student believes the teacher truly cares, believes in his/her ability to achieve, and works to support his/her learning.
Being a “student’ of teaching – working each day to strengthen teaching skills and implement new strategies.
Collaborates with colleagues, students, parents, and the school community.
Actively uses formative and summative assessments to monitor student achievement
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Native fluency in French
BA/BS in French Education and/or FL secondary state certification.
Teaching experience in Independent Schools, preferably in a Middle School, or relevant classroom experience is recommended.
Experience with AP French Language and Culture or DELF program, a plus.
Demonstrate knowledge of a variety of teaching approaches and engage multiple modalities.
Experience in ACTFL World Readiness Standards, UbD, Project Based Learning, Comprehensible Input, preferable.
Integration of technology into curriculum.
Knowledge of diverse French Cultures.
Experience living in a French-speaking country.
Knowledge of other languages, such as Spanish or Chinese, is a plus.
Work in fast-paced environment dealing with a variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
May be required to work long hours for extended periods of time.
Must be able to lift 20lbs and occasionally lift up to 50lbs.
Ability to work in varied and extreme whether conditions, including extreme heat.
