MOLD DESIGNER

The Mold Designer is responsible for designing the mold starting with the customer-provided computer-aided design (CAD). The Mold Designer is required to make certain that the mold is designed to meet the customer’s expectations. Feasibility is completed during the mold design phase and communicated by the Mold Designer to the extended team. The Mold Designer is also required to make certain the mold is designed for manufacturability. The Mold Designer will release the Bill of Materials (BOM) to purchasing and the shop for construction. The Mold Designer ensures ProMed’s brand, philosophy, systems, policies, and procedures are properly implemented and observed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Position duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs design of molding components, and full mold designs to support toolroom operations;
  • Designs and extracts electrodes for the computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) department;
  • Designates appropriate sprue and runner locations, gate and ejection layouts, water lines, etc. to ensure safe and quality tool builds;
  • Reverse engineers existing components for mold repairs;
  • Updates existing mold designs with changes;
  • Conducts work in Creo Parametric or Solidworks;
  • Recommends changes to mold designs to improve the life of the tooling and correct mold issues;
  • Have thorough knowledge and understanding of tooling, tool room practices, and fabricating techniques;
  • Completes purchase requisitions as needed;
  • Meets expectations of regular, reliable attendance;
  • Other Duties As Needed: Any other duties and tasks as deemed necessary and appropriate.


Required:

  • 5 or more years of related experience in Injection molding or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • At minimum earned an Associates’ degree (A.A.S.) from a technical school;
  • Be able to understand and read blueprints;
  • Experience working in Creo Parametric or Solidworks;
  • Ideally have training and experience in the following areas: Injection Molding, Assembly (Manual and Automation), Process Control, Machining (Manual & CNC);
  • Be a fact-based problem solver and have the ability to strategically analyze situations and problems;
  • Be innovative, take initiative, and be able to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Must have Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products to include, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project;
  • Commitment to continuous improvement company-wide;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both written and verbal; professional, courteous and friendly personality; clearly conveys ideas and information and receives information effectively;
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving and time-sensitive skills;
  • Ability to create positive working relationships with a diverse group of people including gender, ethnicity, age, and cultural and skill level differences;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
