General Functions:

This is a part-time temporary position. The Nave Communications Assistant will support communications and outreach to Spenard residents, businesses, and local artists in connection with Cook Inlet Housing Authority (CIHA)’s community arts and culture initiative, The Nave. This position is under the direction of CIHA’s Vice President of Community Development, Real Estate, and Planning.

Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities):

  • Assist with social media planning, content creation, and execution.
  • Assist with The Nave website updates, including updating the calendar on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Communicate information about events happening at The Nave and The Nave programming to CIHA residents and staff. Use channels such as CIHA Public Relations, Resident Engagement staff, individual property Facebook groups, and in-person marketing at CIHA properties.
  • Assist with formatting The Nave’s annual report template.
  • Build a contact list of local artists and assist with outreach to build a network of artist partners.
  • Build a system for sorting and storing photos and marketing materials for The Nave.
  • Assist with file transfer process.
  • Help with outreach to Spenard businesses. Participate in Spenard Second Saturday and Spenard Chamber of Commerce along with the Nave manager.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to approach people with tact and empathy.
  • Willingness to do door-to-door outreach, cold-calling, tabling, and speak in front of groups.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency with social media content creation and management.
  • Layout and graphic design skills (ideally with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva).
  • Skills around website management, technical writing, program planning, surveying, and report and dashboard compilation a plus.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in, business, marketing, communications, graphic design, or creative and professional writing.
