LOCATION: Operations Center – Bangor or Presque Isle

REPORTS TO: Billing Supervisor

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under the general direction of the Billing Supervisor, the Net Energy Billing (NEB) Specialist will assist the billing of multiple renewable energy projects, such as community solar and rooftop solar programs that Versant Power’s customers may choose to participate in or install at their homes.

The NEB Specialist is responsible for thoroughly understanding net energy billing, including any changes in regulations, metering requirements, and billing system requirements to accurately bill net energy billing customers.

This position requires knowledge of Versant Power’s internal processes and standard contracts in compliance with the Maine Public Utilities Commission’s (MPUC) Customer Net Energy Billing Chapter 313, Distributed Generation Procurement Chapter 312, and to a lesser degree, Small Generator Interconnection Standards Chapter 324.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Understands all aspects of net energy billing, including the multiple available programs and their specific billing functions as allowed under Customer Net Energy Billing Chapter 313 and Distributed Generation Procurement Chapter 312.
  • Creates and maintains collaborative working relationships with project sponsors for all communication regarding the net energy billing agreement, such as, but not limited to, monthly updates to eligible shared financial interest customer information and the creation and sharing of the monthly generation facility report.
  • Acts as the main point of contact with single customer facilities (i.e. rooftop solar) for all communication regarding the net energy billing arrangement, such as but not limited to, the initial setup of the applicable sharing arrangement and allocation percentages and any future changes, as needed.
  • Establishes a system to accurately maintain all records and communication related to the net energy billing agreements over the life of the agreement.
  • Ensures accurate setup and maintenance of project data in Cayenta Utilities, the customer billing information system
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of net energy billing accounts, including a thorough understanding of the billing calculations.
  • Fields questions from Customer Service and at times directly from customers regarding net energy billing; Acquires and maintains knowledge of all Versant Power customer support, metering, billing and communications systems.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains files, process documentation and trains backup resources.
  • Participates in processes to create, execute and document test results as upgrades or changes are made to the net energy billing processes.
  • Informs Customer Service of any changes to the net energy billing process and assists with updates to training material.
  • Attends outside training as required or directed to compliment work responsibilities.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned, including designated duties associated with Storm Restoration.
  • Works in accordance with the documented environmental procedures, instructions, and specific responsibilities as defined in individual procedures and instructions. Reports problems or deviations associated with the environmental issues and the Environmental Management System (EMS) to the Environmental Department.

REQUIRED OR PREFERRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly recommended; business or engineering concentration strongly preferred. Acceptable work experience may be considered.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills are required.
  • Ability to manage tasks and deadlines for multiple long-term concurrent projects is required.
  • Independent problem-solving abilities and strict attention to detail required.
  • Demonstrated strong proficiency in office software such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook required.
  • Must be able to deal courteously, tactfully and efficiently with internal and external contacts.
  • Cayenta CIS experience strongly preferred.

WORKING SCHEDULE:

Usual work hours are 7:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday through Friday. Working between 40-50 hours is expected.
