Your Mission


Compass Rose Public School teachers are responsible for ensuring that every Compass Rose student masters the academic and social skills necessary to succeed in college and the world beyond, while also embodying Compass Rose’s values daily.

As a Flex Teacher, you are a full time teacher who supports various grades and content at all Compass Rose schools either in the San Antonio or Austin regions. Having Flex Teachers on our Compass Rose teams allows for minimal instructional downtime when a classroom vacancy or substitute need arises. You are highly flexible and adaptable as your campus, grade, and content assignments, including Special Education supports, will change as the needs of schools and students are prioritized. When you are not covering for an instructional absence, you are supporting campus-leaders with various tasks such as drop off or pick up duties, lunch duty, small group tutoring, etc.

In addition, Compass Rose teachers set ambitious goals for student achievement and invest students and families in accomplishing them; create a powerful equity-based learning environment; plan and deliver purposeful, rigorous instruction; assess for mastery and track student progress toward goals; analyze data to intervene and adjust instruction, and seek excellence as an educator


Your Responsibilities

  • Report to the VP of Academics and school leader at the campus serving
  • Instructional assignments will vary based on campus needs at a given time
  • Arrive timely at your assigned campus for the day
  • Work with whole-class or small groups of students in grade levels PreK-12th
  • Potentially Internalize pre-made lessons or prepare grade-level content based on assignment, varies by campus.
  • Ride SpEd transportation before and/or afterschool
  • Implement student accommodations
  • Help shape and develop a school wide culture that fosters a joyful and inclusive learning environment
  • Host necessary tutoring sessions to meet all students’ needs
  • Actively participate in weekly professional development and personal learning development
  • Minimum of 40+ hours spent at school per week
  • Learn, master, and deliver content and grade-level curriculum, core content objectives, and texts Repetitive- consider deleting or combining with above bullet
  • Implement formal and informal assessments to track each individual student’s progress and learning needs
  • Implement clear and consistent behavior management and restorative justice system that aligns to campus-wide initiatives while developing students’ character and sense of community in the classroom
  • Implement school-wide behavior systems
  • Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on trust, understanding, and respect for the communities in which they identify.
  • Plan thoughtfully and teach joyously. You'll adapt our rigorous, standards-based curriculum to meet the particular needs of your students, thinking about both how to scaffold rigorous learning and how to infuse your students' day with joy.
  • Use data intentionally. You are constantly thinking about how to help Compass Rose students achieve ambitious goals. To track progress towards goals, you'll analyze academic and classroom culture data to inform your instruction and target focus areas for your students.
  • Invest in your own learning. We support our teachers' ongoing professional growth through weekly professional development opportunities, as well as weekly observations and feedback conversations.
