Overview:
Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. We are seeking an Electrical Supervisor who will support the Asset Management section in the Nonreactor Nuclear Facilities Division (NNFD), Isotope Science and Engineering Directorate (ISED) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The role of the Electrical Supervisor is to coach and mentor journeyman electricians and to work closely with line management, engineering, and researchers to maintain high level of reliability of electrical infrastructure and systems. The work will entail precision asset care including preventive and predictive maintenance, corrective actions, modifying and installing equipment utilizing engineering processes, documenting findings, and improving equipment reliability using ISO-55000 standards.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoots and analyzes system and component failures and develops corrective actions.
- Provides field work technical direction to craft. The electrical supervisor will spend a majority of their time in the field with the craft.
- Executes preventive maintenance plans.
- Conducts pre-job briefings for all personnel to be involved in the work.
- Ensures that work is completed in accordance with the approved work package and work order.
- Works to engineering to confirm Configuration Management process for design change for each work package.
- Implements modifications in accordance with configuration control processes.
- Conducts post job brief to include any lessons learned that would be helpful in performing this, or similar, jobs in the future.
- Ensures personnel performing work tasks are properly trained/qualified.
- Manages the task/project within scope, schedule, and budget or available funding.
- Coordinates and manages resources to complete work.
- Establishes and ensures an open and supportive working.
- Provides performance feedback to team members.
- Maintains the maintenance equipment database for new and existing electrical equipment.
- Acquires and maintains the ‘Qualified Electrical Worker’ role.
- Maintains detailed knowledge of electrical hazard exposures (i.e., shock, arc flash/blast, and thermal), appropriate controls for mitigating these hazards (i.e., PPE), and implementation of these controls.
- Notifies line management of potential electrical safety events and lead/participate in investigations of electrical events.
- Provides guidance regarding the purchase, fabrications, and/or modification of electrical equipment for Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) equipment or electrical-authority having jurisdiction (E-AHJ) approved equipment prior to use.
- Assists with the inspection and inspection prioritization of existing legacy unlisted electrical equipment as an Electrical Equipment Inspector (EEI).
- Leads practical exercises as required to meet electrical worker training requirements.
- Maintains communications with line management, the Electrical Safety Committee, SBMS Electrical Safety Subject Area/Lock Tag Verify Subject Matter Expert, and the E-AHJ regarding electrical safety.
Basic Qualifications:
- An associate degree and 8 years of experience in maintenance of nuclear equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated leadership of crafts or techs
- Requires ability to diagnose equipment problems and develop formal instructions for performance and documentation of repairs. Experience in leading maintenance tasks and equipment analysis is required.
This position requires an “L” clearance; however, all qualified applicants will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BS in engineering. Five years of nuclear experience is highly desired, as well as familiarity with maintenance activities in a nuclear operating environment. Familiarity with the regulatory programs which define the facility work environment, including DOE Orders pertaining to conduct of operation and maintenance, would be a plus.
- Practical experience using CMMS and/or ERP software such as SAP, Oracle, Maximo, InforEAM, etc.
- Recognized certification such as CMRP, CMPT, CRL, RMIC
- Journeyman or Master Electrician License
