Job Title: NORDIC SKI TEAM ASSISTANT COACH
Department: Nordic Center
Reports To: Nordic Coach and Nordic Director
Rate of Pay: $14.00/ Hour
Shift: Various weekday afternoons/ evenings and some weekends
SUMMARY
The Assistant Nordic Team Coach's will assist the head coach in running the daily training operations of the team, providing a safe, fun, and educational atmosphere for all team participants (athletes, coaches, parents) in order to create a long-standing and prominent Nordic team. Train the other coaches to offer the highest quality coaching possible at every opportunity on and off the hill. The job can also be expanded to include related off-season activities. Coaches also uphold Sundance's zero tolerance standard for sexual abuse and molestation by following protocols to protect athletes from inappropriate behavior by staff members, guests, and other athletes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assistant Coach Performance Standards:
The goal of the performance standards is to increase the level of coaching provided to our athletes. The importance of world-class coaching from all coaches every session cannot be stressed enough. The impact on our overall goals of growing the team, and having successful athletes is massive.
Be prepared for each and every training day with an overall plan for the day, and a specific plan for each athlete.
Evaluate goals on a daily, monthly, and seasonally basis.
Increase coaching level each year (either USSA or PSIA).
On Snow Training and Preparation Program
Execute the plan of athlete/club on snow training program.
Maintain mountain/ski area relations.
Coach assigned group on practice days.
Conduct (detect/correct) athlete video analysis.
Meet with athletes - Both formally and informally during training. Set up time to talk to athletes individually and as a group as your regular instructive training.
Meet with coaches - Meet once per week to communicate with the other coaches what they are doing with their group, any issues that need to be brought to attention, and to set the schedule for the week and review the prior week.
Meet with parents - Attend all the teams' program nights/orientation meetings, race meetings, and all team activities.
Safety is a coaches number one goal at all times. All coaches will undergo safety training from the program director at the beginning of each year and are expected to follow these rules every day during training. Ensure trail safety measures
Maintain training records of assigned group.
Keep a record of assigned groups and athletes.
Manage injury situations and return to activity.
Know and follow through in the case of an injury with the injury situation report dictated by Sundance Nordic Center. An athlete's return to activity will be managed by that athlete's coach with the direct supervision of the Nordic Director.
Competition Program
Be knowledgeable about appropriate local, national or international rules and regulations that govern Nordic ski racing.
Drive to race/training venues.
Supervise/assist in ski preparation sessions.
Manage/book training-warm-up space.
Manage athlete goal setting/evaluation procedures.
Supervise athletes off the trail where necessary.
General Communications
Maintain regular communication with key individuals and groups regarding the following: Coaching tips and pointers, positive feedback, athlete evaluations, training plan, and schedule.
Train athletes on mountain and environmental stewardship, including the recycling program.
Professional Development
Review technical videos and publications.
Attend on snow training sessions for coaching staff.
Upgrade or update personal skills through the attendance of: USSA/PSIA courses/update events, Post-secondary courses, Ski improvement sessions, and other coach education opportunities

All employees are invited to participate in environmental or Sundance Preserve sponsored events.

DRESS CODE
Must be in proper uniform and follow Sundance appearance policy at all times.

As representatives of Sundance all employees including mangers are expected to be in compliance with the Dress Code determined for his/her department as defined in the job description or follow the standards below.
In order to best promote a positive, professional image that meets Sundance guest's expectations, employees are required to dress in a professional, conservative fashion that is appropriate for their area. Please use the following as a minimum standard:
All aspects of the Personal Appearance policy (SPL#50) must be in compliance.
Employees are required to wear nametags at all times while on duty.
Clothing must be unwrinkled and clean, and in good condition (no rips, tears, or frays regardless of whether accidental or fashionably placed).
Blue jeans are permitted.
Men's shirts must be tucked in.
Appropriate skirt length is from the knee to the ankle.
A tailored fit is required of all clothing.
Tank tops, halter tops tube tops, and spaghetti straps are prohibited.
Sleeveless shirts are permitted for females.
Bare midriffs are prohibited.
Proper footwear for your department is required.
Dress sandals are permitted for females.
Flip flops are prohibited in all areas.
Tennis shoes are prohibited unless there is a business need (ie: Mtn. Ops.)
Fashion sneakers are allowed within department approved parameters.
If your department allows t-shirts, they must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos.
If your department allows baseball caps, they must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos.
If your department allows beanies, they must be in good condition and Sundance branded.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Prefer candidate with previous racing/coaching experience. Combination of PSIA and/or USSA training preferred.
TECHNICAL/COMPUTER SKILLS
Proficiency with basic Excel and Word functions, interactive calendars, email, and must be able to operate a video recorder and play back video on TV or computer. Operate 2-way radios for communication to other staff.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid U.S. Drivers' License in good standing as determined by Sundance's Insurance Company guidelines.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
